I very much like the color and texture. Is there a thought process leading to the crop? Sincere question from a novice — could the center be made more prominent somehow? It feels like my eye is drawn up where the space is and away from the frond that’s in focus.

Greetings. I joined LightStalking seven years ago with only a very few contributions. Now that I have more time on my hands I hope to get back into amateur photography. Looking forward to learning and improving.

Thanks. Use of Field Depth is one of my weaknesses. I use shutter priority too much. I also expect it could have improved if she were further from the wall. Check It Out

Yes, I was so concerned with the focus that I neglected framing. I kept the focal point on the camera on her eye, which kept the eyes centered top to bottom. I was too close to her and left no room for cropping. I also think she was too close to the wall behind her. The second was also my first choice in spite of the weaknesses. Thanks for your…[Read more]

She loves that jacket. Next time, I’m going to come back here BEFORE we go out to shoot and review the advice. I appreciate the chance to improve.Check It Out

Thanks for the feedback, and I agree. I hadn’t paid enough attention to the background, and noticed that the lines also made many of the shot look crooked (which they are – but why give it away?). I need to take more time scouting locations. We chose this one solely because of the light and it was easy to access.Check It Out

Two more headshotsMy daughter changed her hair color and wanted some updated headshots. I’d submitted some to the Shark Tank a while ago, and tried to follow the suggestions this time around. Most importantly to focus the eyes. I tried – honestly I did – but many did not come out very sharp. Perhaps if I took more time…
Anyway suggestions…[Read more]

Very nice. I know you could not control the setting, but it’s kind of a shame the body blends in so well with the swamp water and wood. Otherwise amazing capture of a wild subject.Check It Out

I like the sunset golden tones, but the sky’s blue is distracting. My eye won’t settle, like I can’t decide whether to look at the clouds or the sunset. I would like to see the original.Check It Out

Just so you know, I have no experience with landscapes. But as interesting as this looks like it _should_ be, I find nothing to focus my attention. Where do you hope my eye will fall?

Lovely light and subject. Looks a bit crooked though – the minarets lean to the left. I’d try cropping so the distant dome is not a close to center? I’m not experienced enough to say exactly where to crop, but that rooftop on the lower right seems to distract me.

I like this better than the original. Too bad you had to crop out some of the elements. BTW, I originally thought the apostle reference had something to do with the rock and water thing – men imitating Christ as a rock, water as life. And they’re lined up like they have somewhere to go. But that’s just me.

Yeah – I tried a quick blur of the bricks on a copy I downloaded (hope you don’t mind), more blur further back, and it did nothing to help. The cobbles themselves do show depth without messing about. Maybe I’m just bothered by the fact that there’s nothing bothersome about the original : /

You must have a good eye to catch the opportunity let alone the shot itself.

I haven’t much to add, except the final version with “pooh-be-gone” seems to me to stand alone better. And I think the bit of green down left adds an extra element of reality. The more monochrome gritty one is good too, but looked to me like it would go well with an article as an illustration not a center piece.

George replied to the topic broken window in the forum The Shark Tank Feedback Forum 10y, 7mo ago
For some reason I thought it was tilted but when I put a square to the image, the frames all prove me wrong. The concrete above one side is taller than the other, yet the window itself is not crooked. Can’t figure it out. After I gave up that little distraction though, I found the window intriguing and was drawn in. I wonder what used to be there,…[Read more]
