Allows Edits? YesDo you mean reflections of ourselves, Patrick? That’s an interesting idea, yours is a good start.

Hi Diane , It would be ideal , if anyone feels uncomfortable showing themselves then any reflection is welcome , Also abstract reflections or wear a mask ( i will ) for some shots it is all for fun.
Going to try keep one a week going on my end , I have this throwdown plus another one on the go regarding reflections with another group of shooters and i thought why not add some here , We are surrounded with reflective surfaces and most of us if not all have a phone camera the majority of the time in our pocket … Grab what you can when you can 🙂 and share your fav , today i shot 6 random ones with my phone , shop windows , using stuff on the shelves as well haha , the coffee machine .. i never liked any but it was funny doing them , they are so easy and quick i will try and try again.

I have been trying to make frozen bubbles all week! We only got 24 hours of snow though, and the temperature stuck around 32 degrees, so I don’t think it was cold enough to freeze them. Giant fail, but fun trying!

Allows Edits? YesHi Patrick, very odd …. saw it yesterday, but it’s gone now!
Do you upload from a site, or from your computer? I’ve no idea what difference it would make, but I always upload from Flickr and I don’t seem to have any problems. Maybe Dahlia would have a better idea of why this happens?-
January 11, 2025 at 4:34 pm #531880
Thank you very much for posting Tersha , Funny thing is i always resize and save for web when posting on the forum (which is the correct way ) Always from my computer , i don’t use any other form of upload , tbh i don’t ever click on the full resolution images that get shared on the forum that are hosted on Flickr i dislike being redirected if i’m honest.
The photos always seem to come back after the post has been buried a few days lol

Just thinking about this 52 week project , it will be so good to have a complete body of that i can call FINISHED lol , I think no matter the outcome it is a win win situation , I think it helps develop you not only photographically but also personally as well , on the flipside to have a collection of photos that have a sequence from start and end on the same theme can only be a plus.
When collected together as 52 single photographs that is when one will see the work was worth it.

Matt has done this a number of times so looking forward to that part very much , he will also have updates on anything via YT but these are slower to arrive.

Your Photo is not showing Diane , just a heads up … I think there must be a plugin caching issue because the same thing has been happening on the blogs latest post , it continuously shows old content unless you press f5 but even after clearing the browser cache on PC and mobile phone old content still continues to be what i first see each week i visit and i must press f5 for the new content to show.

Allows Edits? YesYou know, I don’t think even once I have combined black-and-white with the green. I’ve done it for blue and I’ve done it for red and I’ve done it for yellow. I think it gives an opportunity for a very particular type of image when you’re talking about portraits and it’s not a warm and fuzzy feeling. lol
-
September 7, 2025 at 10:42 pm #538353
The only thing warm and fuzzy round here is my socks haha , i have all those colors with these lights , i was shooting with the main lights off and when i tried red and green the light was very low and i had to bump the iso very high the shutter was already slow a bit too slow to be honest i always flinch or something and results is blurry eyes , the blue it’s actually aqua give enough brightness to show my face more and the yellows not very strong.

September 8, 2025 at 8:43 pm #538382
I am not sure if my idea has added anything or possibly took something away , behind the mirror i had my projector on playing something i was watching on youtube The power of 3 ( https://youtu.be/f0oUfmB1WAI?si=tRZ5uGazWoY25xmm )
The idea was when the light spilled over the sides and top it was creating a pattern of light rays , i thought it might look good coming from the top and sides enveloping the mirror more a bit like a moonflower light but the lack of having any smoke , fog made catching them as the shutter opened and closed was hit and miss and i only shot 3 frames in all , i might look into getting one of those small fog machines for effects like that , but how often would it get used ?

Allows Edits? YesHa ha ha ha that is the big revelation about most photography gear I buy – I only ever use about 10% of it after the first day. I probably should have a garage sale.
-
September 9, 2025 at 8:53 pm #538432
When you think how much you lay out for a piece of new gear then let it go in just as good condition as new for peanuts , had that happen with sound equipment in the past big PA speakers and my record collection with just over 3000 12 inch singles.

Allows Edits? YesTo be honest, it’s kind of why I have taken a bit of a conscious decision to be away from turning Light Stalking into a gear blog. I probably should be a little bit more pragmatic about that because gear hounds are a huge source of traffic which we could really do is at the moment but the whole idea of improving your photography through purchasing new gear really greets me the wrong way. And I honestly think a secondhand five dollar book on photography has a vastly greater effect on people and images than almost any piece of gear you can buy. I’ll make a minor exception for some lenses and some niche photography subjects but in general I honestly believe it. I have an upgraded my main shooting camera in probably 10 years and would actually be quite happy with an old D1 or something like that.
-
September 9, 2025 at 9:43 pm #538442
I was have been eyeing up old cameras as well , i don’t get G.A.S never did but the D600 or a D750 Have always been on my next buy list 2 old bodies but 2 belter sensors , i have heard there is something special about the raw files on the 600 that even the models that came after it can’t match , I don’t know how true this is but looking at edited raw files they do have a certain classic look to the photos that i love , simple lightroom edits with no presets.

Allows Edits? YesThere’s always some detail in your shots that I find unexpected Patrick. I mean they’re all shot itself as of course compelling but then you always add some sort of flare of your own like the lighting in this one. It’s kind of like a visual hook.
-
September 14, 2025 at 9:12 pm #538655
I tend to favor low light and when i add my own artificial light i think i bring it a to bit close because they are not very bright , the mirror has scuff marks on it( they are plastic mirror tiles and i think they are spreading the light into a flare or sorts , this had a few competing details and the bright part is where i want the viewer to land.

-
September 15, 2025 at 8:38 pm #538694
No mate , i don’t own the correct software and my pc could do with an upgrade for processing large files like video then the sound equipment needed is another layer of cost to add in , for good quality i mean.
Video does seem to be the norm for many these days i will play about with bits and pieces but it is a slow burn for me mainly down to cost mate 🙂
I am making progress building a creative space at home slow progress but bit by bit i get a bit more done and when i have everything sorted i have planned to shoot many more bits and pieces while i paint , this might open the door to me wanting to try more video on other things , this is longer term plan fingers crossed and a lot of luck 🙂

September 16, 2025 at 9:19 pm #538742
I will look into this thank you , i have setup just as a quick test my action camera and i will record a small abstract canvas i will be painting at some point this week and edit it with the software i do currently have installed ( VideoProc Vlogger)
I got some heavy duty castors for the big work table ( so i can move it about) also some paint to start converting some old desk and storage units tomorrow once these are painted and dried i will put a bit of effort trying a few video options with my dslr and tripod , one thing that bugs me is i can shoot 4k on all my cameras but it ends up being a waste the file sizes are big and take ages to upload to some place like youtube i always shoot 4k and then downsample to 1080p , still learning to be fair.

Allows Edits? YesYeah, I also find it fairly and I am by no means any sort of professional.
One thing I will say is that the reels on Instagram get a lot more views than the stills photos. If you’re trying to hit a bigger audience, then you might just want to show your art as reels. Really depends on your goals with your art. And I could certainly see an utter rejection of Instagram as a perfectly valid response. lol
-
September 17, 2025 at 10:54 pm #538796
Everything you just mentioned is totally valid mate , i have known for ages about reels and how it can boost the audience for an account saying that , i have just spent a few days removing about 50 accounts from my own account , they were just dead accounts and false numbers , IG seems to have a lot of that , i see accounts with say 10k followers but only ever get a max of 200 likes on a great image .. I said from day one the follow button i wish they would remove it or give the option to switch it off completely , I have my account set to private and only allow accounts i have checked out in .. My reason i kept getting followers that had not got 1 single monochrome image on their own feed , For me this is a red FLAG instantly plus i rarely follow colour photography accounts and the ones i do i either know them to talk to or they have followed me from day 1 , i am happy with the people who do follow i speak with a lot of them weekly and they are a great group of people.
I have about 1600 following but mostly about 60 to 70 likes on an image sometimes 100 if its a decent shot , this is way more that i ever thought i would get so as is i am very happy.

Thank you Rob , i always brushed the idea away before, not projects just the thoughts of me putting the time into it , i tried a month long , one a day , at the very beginning of my journey and i lasted about 9 days 🙂 … I got to a point were i would come home with a couple of pictures but not really anything other than single frames and no story , i wanted to try complete at least one series of images on the same thing and this selfie project came along and i jumped in both feet , really glad i did because the year was going to pass one way or the other and i was determined to have something / anything completed by the end of 2025 , the what ifs went away 🙂 its almost done now and it was not such a big deal to do when i sit and think about it a year sounds hard before you start but it’s not so bad , god love those that do it for 10 years or more on the same story that’s committed hard hard work.

Thank you David , I think i have always had a restlessness about me , i have never thought about it much but i wonder that if when i was growing up we moved home /country a lot after the age of 9 years old , a few years living in england ( north west) then back to belfast , then back to england and each time it was starting New school , new area to get used too , new friends to find , and with this constant change i never really felt rooted to anyone particular place , the older i got it never went away , i have since lived , england ,wales , scotland , So maybe this plays a small part in me always moving to the next frame ( or in other words restlessness ) The novelty of something soon passes , Photography , ART , Dogs are the few things in my life that thankfully don’t have that novelty factor for me.

I know the name but never played it , mostly sim racing in my game days haha , all my mates they played all the shoot em ups , last shoot em up i played was one of the call of duty titles and the first level was on a ship in a thunderstorm so the swaying of the boat and the almost strobe like lighting from the lightning made me so sick , that was the last game i ever played haha.

Allows Edits? YesI will absolutely check it out. The thing is, I really love computer games but I need to be immersed in the story very quickly or else I just lose interest. And it’s really the storytelling that keeps me there. As such I don’t often find myself getting too addicted to computer games any more.

Thank you for looking in i agree not your normal selfie lol , to be honest i was not really in the mood for photos yesterday ( tired ) but shot it anyway and this resulted in my mind with a lazy effort an easy and quick image to make.
I must admit i noticed since week 42 i am beginning to fade a little , i will finish it no matter though only a few more to finish 7 weeks left now.

Thank you very much for that Dahlia , I think i have reset my mood , tiredness is my killer haha , my body clock for the last 9 months has been one of i am up all night doing art and when everyone is getting up to go to work i am falling into bed for about 4 hours then the routine starts again . Burnt out , I have got back into going to bed early and being up and about with everyone else during daylight , i need to stick to this routine , it can be so easy to drift back into being a night owl.

Thank you Dahlia , that is it i could have used things outdoors like car windows , shop fronts , all the surfaces we would normally go for when getting a reflection but i made it a bit hard by nearly always shooting at home with a mirror and that brings a lot of limitations with what i can do , i defo will do another project this coming year i found that process very rewarding 🙂

Thanking you RG , almost complete just one for this project to go … will do another in 2026 and i have a few subjects in mind , i found picking a thing that you find yourself engaging with naturally during the normal week , or a place you visit weekly ( if your shooting weekly ) the only effort at that point is taking your camera and let getting the photo happen naturally , most have a phone in a pocket so bringing a dedicated camera is not even an obstacle , you can learn a great deal about all sorts of things when you stick with it 🙂
-
December 15, 2025 at 3:09 pm #543543
I have either of my cameras with me at all times. Over the years, I’ve found it better to get those few photos each day and all are keepers, vs picking up the camera after a few weeks of collecting dust, then take 100 photos because the camera is available.
-
December 15, 2025 at 3:28 pm #543544
You summed this process exactly how it plays out in reality , i won’t let a day pass without making something with a lens this is like you say the place you discover the keepers 🙂

This reminds me of those little branches that always seem to find my fishing line no matter how careful i try to be which usually ends up with loud crack from my line which results in re setting up lol , they hug the river banks and when free lining a worm the first place it heads is the same spot as these overhanging bits.

The greater contrast does make a better portrait.

Thanking you Sir , i was glad i shot both versions , although i did submit the suit version as 52 there is no hard and fast rules i must use it … I also have the colour version as an option but i am leaning towards all mono to keep it unified.

I was walking downtown yesterday and saw this ornament hanging on the door handle. I was so focused on the ornament, I didn’t even realize the obvious reflection until I got home and downloaded the photos to the computer.

This is a peach of a frame , very much to my own taste the lack and white looks raw and gritty in the best possible way and the hidden features are on point for the image theme excellent share again mate 🙂

Hooah, thank you. While I do like crisp black and white, the grainy drama with contrast is best for me as well.

That door is a double glass pane, about an inch spacing. The double reflection, one being more ghost-like, does look interesting.
