Hi Lenny, I found myself pondering this one for quite a while. I don’t think it quite fits into the minimalist category as I can’t seem to settle on a place to rest my eyes. The whole frame is busy with stuff; the number 68, the door, the grafitti, the brickwork, the step, the light and shadow, the wall. Nothing seems to say “I’m the main attraction here”. And yet, something still appeals. The doorway triggers questions about what lays beyond but I think it needs a stronger context. A doorway to what? Maybe if it was framed more spaciously (ie; zoomed out more) so that the doorway was more isolated against the canvas of the wall…more minimalised… it would amplify the intrigue. Maybe I’m ranting on a bit but in its current composition I think it struggles to get beyond a picture of a door? Hope that’s not too harsh mate. An idea of what I talking about….

I think your original pic would work if there was a counterpoint in it. Just some object, anything, a dog, person, empty can, a piece of chalk lying on the ground. Something to make the viewer see more than a door.

graham’s comp works really well.  a centered comp. would work if the 68 wasn’t on the wall, it throws the visual weight off.

love the b&w tones in the original.  if you’re going for realism then leave it as is, if you’re looking for minimalism then straighten the bottom, like graham did.

Hi Lenny, I like it as it is and cannot see anything that can be done to improve. Love the light and shadows 🙂

                Thanks for the comments.

Graham, not too harsh at all.  I don’t post here for pats on the back which is not what this forum is about.  That being said, Dahlia, thanks for the pat on the back 🙂

I’d put a bit more exposure and contrast on either the graffiti OR the 68.
