A Harvest Sunset
Another sunset taken in the village where I live. Apart from the obvious phone lines hanging above on which I could not remove because of the way the clouds were situated I’m not to sure if maybe it looks a little too dirty on the field?

The first photo worked better for me because of the controlled sun flares and the softer feel about it. Bring the highligts in the 2nd version way down and see what it does?
Not sure what tools you have but Photoshop’s content aware fill will remove those phone lines (front & back) and post without evidence that it ever was there

I, too, like the first photo better. I think the darker colors better reflect what I’d expect to see with the sun just peeking up over the horizon. What I’d consider doing differently is mostly in composition. There is a natural tendency to put the horizon line in the center of the frame, but then the viewer is left wondering: what is more important in this photo, the sky or the ground? You might try cropping off a bit from the top or from the bottom and seeing if that doesn’t result in a more dramatic image.
The other thing I might suggest is something you’d have to have done in the field. If you were able to get a little closer to the roll of hay, you might have been able to get a little separation between the roll and the trees in the background. With the trees touching or disappearing behind the roll of hay, they feel crowded, where a bit of space gives more of a feeling of depth.
Love the idea behind this shot–the lines of the stubble, the sunburst, the roll of hay in the foreground. Very cool.

Thank you so much for replying @tobiepsg @fotofrank I think you are both absolutely right I took a look at the second edit and realized it was a bit over powering but lowering the highlights would of made the image more orange and too over edited which is something I tend to do when not resting on the editing side. I completely forgot about content aware thanx for pointing that out that was a great help. I had cropped the image before posting but I thought I would post as was just in case I may of over looked something. I feel the first image was maybe a little to light around the trees so I darkened them a little more and removed the phone lines π

@lunac73 I think that final edit does it, although I would echo the suggestion above about a crop off the bottom to lower the horizon in the frame.
With this edit the trees, sky and sun are clearly the main subject, the bale playing a support role.
For consideration on a further shoot, I could wish you had taken a couple of paces to your right before shooting this image. That would have produced more space between the bale and the sun. Currently the area around bale, sun and large tree feels too congested. -

Thank you so much for replying @gordonjames π do you mean crop off some more? I too wish I took a few more steps too the right also I’m a bit gutted about that but then I only had a little time to set up from when I got into the field and I was a little tipsy lol Something to remind myself of when rushing out the house.

Hi lunac73. Yes, I meant take a little more off the bottom – between 1/2 and 2/3 the way to the base of the bale. Doing so drops the horizon a little of the centre line and further reduces the prominence of the bale.

@lulac73 Very nice job on the final edit. Much more dramatic and compelling than either of the first two options. @gordonjames makes a good point about the composition. If I had a dollar for every time I looked at a shot on my monitor and said “if I’d just moved a few feet (or inches)” I would be a very wealthy man (as wold most photographers!
