I’ve been going to this same spot by the river and taking these same shots for 2 weeks now as I test various recipes for a Fuji X-E1. These are what I settled with. I only shoot Jpeg with this camera. They are resized before uploading.

I think you could find many lines of text in those books to tell a unique story with a frame or 2 , hands tell a good story maybe holding a book open , over the shoulder shot 🙂

For me bored with a camera in my hand is one step away from bored with a lagre firearm in my hand. Which reminds me I bought a sensor that dectes the bullet being fired and triggers the camera to photograph the target mid explosion. Cant wait to try that one out.

I saw this photo the other day and was gonna comment but got distracted and now I’m back. It’s good though because I was thinking about how to word my comment and then Rob hit the word perfectly, “Juxtaposition.” The lines and colors of the man-made, contrasting with the round mirror reflection’s natural colors is a perfect juxtaposition 🙂

Thanks Rob, although I’m still trying to figure out the science behind the mirror image being in focus yet the mirror itself is 12″ from the lens. Minimum focus distance for the 70-200 is 1.1 meters. One more reason I don’t trust mirrors.

I was 10 or so when I was handed a Kodak 110 and this is how I remember the photos. I run the preset and adjust exposure as needed. Some random shots while driving around or walking around.

If it’s not clear, I love to experiment. I purchased a Retropia Lens. Its a plastic Oreo cookie looking lens with a repurposed lens (glass) from those old disposable cameras. I haven’t walked around with it yet. But, while on a drive, took some shots and toned the results. I can have fun with this lens. Shot with my Fuji X-E1. Bear in mind, these are through the windshield or side windows.

We have a table off in the lilac bushes and is in shade until about 5pm. I was sitting at the table and heard the baby robins crying out to their mom. SO, took a few shots of the chicks and a couple of the haggard looking mom 😀

A MTaDW shot just this morning. I have the Lumix LX5 set for both raw/jpeg and instead of running the raw through a preset, I ran the jpeg. Made some slight adjustments and saved as a new preset. Quite surprised.

Just picked up a Nikon 18-70mm f/3.5-45 (24-105 full frame equivalent) for my Nikon D200. Walking around the yard, I had the lens set to f/5.6 which is my usual goto aperture priority setting. I zoomed to the 70mm and took this shot. Surprised at the extent of the background blur. Bank C, my BW default for the camera. I should have bumped the ISO up a stop.

I was backing into my driveway and noticed something that surprised me. Got out of the truck and took these two shots with the D200 I had with me. Never seen lilacs bloom in September.

That is weird , we saw lupines blooming in the mountains above us this weekend , I’ve never seen them flowering after the first part of June. The plant cycles seem to bee off this year.

It is weird. Our hedge of lilacs is about a 50 x 50 foot square area, all purple with a white one in the middle. They are the lilac trees, not the bush though. Some pushing 15 feet tall.

Anyway, this is the first year we have one blooming in September. My opinion is the drought like summer, all the leaves fell off the lilacs so I bet they went into survival mode, protect the roots. Now that we’ve had a ton of rain over the past 3 weeks, leaves are re-budding (just like in the spring) and that one went into bloom also.

I specifically singled out that Dodge Challenger because if I ever was to purchase a muscle car to restore, my childhood and adulthood fav, is the old Challenger.

I need to get with my Cousin Judy and browse her photo album, she told me she has photos of my old race cars, one of which was a 69 Challenger RT Convertible, but my favorite was always the  70 AAR Cuda, Definitely the fastest of my Mopar’s, in the 1/4 mile my Super Bee and the Hemi Roadrunner would beat it, but anything over a 1/2 mile , nothing could touch it even the Cobras and Vettes. Swede Savage won Indy in a modified AAR Cuda, mine had the same Mod’s.

Looking at Robert’s thread about one of his dogs, Moocher was resting at my feet while I was on the computer. He popped his head up and wanted pets, and since my z5ii is on the desk, what a great photo opportunity. I have designated one of the function buttons on the front of the camera as my Exposure Lock. Moving the center of the framing along Moocher’s nose, when I had the deep blacks I prefer, I locked the exposure. Then, some clicks.

Those are Great RG, the dogs I have are the parent breed of all variations of collie dogs, No question thats in moochers face, and they tend to be very affectionate dogs.

He’ll be 3 years old this January coming up. He’s transitioning to a more mature mannerism, still a goofball but the affection is growing.

I remember his dad (a Border Collie, mom is an Aussi Shepherd) and in only the 15 minutes or so I was in the home to pickup Moocher, the dad was very calm around strangers. Moocher doesn’t have that yet, he’ll bark his head off and when told to sit, he sits and keeps barking, LOL! When he begins his sniffing of a new person, he’s down to about 1 minute now. When he does the stare in the eyes towards the end of that 1 minute, very interesting. Its as if he determines the person is ok in that 5 second stare and from then on, he won’t bark at them.

Yeah the collie breeds can be a challenge as Pups , intelligent , stubborn , testing you constantly, seeming to forget every thing you’ve taught them every 6 months, not much different then an average 3-4 year old child,  3 is most often the turning point,  They should only be with strong assertive owners , My sister has Guinness’s Brother and I had to calm her down a time or 2 when he tested her , They turned 3 in march and now he is the best dog she has ever had.

From time to time I listen to Tucker Carlson, and he puts it well, “Always listen to your dog when it comes to sizing up people , They can read everything they need to know in someone’s eyes Quicker then you can introduce yourself” . He isn’t wrong, and I’ve found these breeds to be extremely perceptive. I some times think they can see straight past the flesh to the soul of a man.

I agree! His stare is a trip when he’s still for about 5 seconds just, staring in the person’s eyes. Seems to be the line for him, does he trust the person, or not.

Looking through photos, here’s Moocher at 8 1/2 weeks on his first ride in the truck. He just laid there for months during rides, then realized one day he can sit up and actually look out the window that I had cracked about 4-5 inches 🙂

A friend was a guest speaker at a church an hour south of where I live. So we decided to be visitors in support. On the way back, took a shot of another friend that attended the service. Calling this preset, “OldieButGoodie” Shot with the D200.
