Bubble time

I’ve never tried taking photos of bubbles although I’ve seen others post them here. So I thought I’d give it a go.

The lighting as it turns out is pretty much the whole deal. Still trying to figure out how to light the complete bubble so I don’t have to crop off as much of the bottom. At this point I’m thinking a diffusion dome over the whole affair with a hole for the lens? If anyone knows and cares to share before I make an experimental dome I’m all ears.

Question for you , i have an  32 inches/80 centimeters Octagonal Softbox with S-Type Bracket Holder (with Bowens Mount) with speed light would this work for the lighting needed for this soap bubble shot

Thanks Patrick. I think you’d be fine with the 32″ one. I don’t have a C stand and boom so I rigged a 40″ diffuser close over top of the bubble and then hand held a softbox above that. Due to DOF a smaller bubble works better or only a slice is in focus. Give it a try. The process interesting.

I found I had to stuff my octagon softbox with crumpled up tissue paper to make the light really diffused, and eliminate hot-spots. Look forward to your results!
