Just back from our annual Autumn Mountain trip. I have wanted to view Sunset from this vista for several years. We arrived there as the sun was going down to find about 20 others at the site, all lined up with their cameras and tripods for “the show.” Temps were in the 40’s with winds gusting to 30 MPH or more.

I’ve got a bunch of photos of the sunset with its iconic layers of ridge-lines and may bore you with additional samples. The link will take you to my web-site where you can walk through other examples of this an other scenes from our trip. Some of what I have in the Gallery are more aids to memory/snapshots than full on serious. It took a good bit of post processing to recover details from the high contrast setting.

I love the delayed effect of the mid ground, mate. This is a cracker of a sunset.

I hope you also turned to face the opposite direction for a second or two just to see what it was doing 😉

Behind me was a wooded cliff face. Very few clouds so I doubt there would have been much color back there if I were atop the ridge. I was thrilled with the view and miserable in the wind and cold, frustrated with the view on my camera, worried about my wife huddled in the car waiting. I didn’t get my head into the experience. Post work gives me another chance at awe.

Personally, I find wind to be one of the most frustrating experiences when I’m doing landscape photography. Mainly because I like to keep that shutter open for an ungodly amount of time.

                        ”Windswept” landscape is under-appreciated.

As somebody who photographs near the beach is quite a lot, wind-swept comes with a lot of sand so I’m not that big of a fan for my camera’s sake either. LOL.

Love the layers and the stunning dusk colours Steve 🙂

Thank you. I was hoping for more clouds to catch the colors in the sky but it was still quite the show.
