For what it’s worth, I prefer the first one. I think it is more pleasing on the eye and fits the “rule of thirds” with the tree in the foreground off to the right lower point. That’s not to say the second crop isn’t a good image, but with that tree in the centre I don’t think it has the same power.

Allows Edits? YesThanks For that Stephen, its one of those I wish I had walked up past that tree. I could remove it but the client like’s it , it was taken on his Old Ranch and he kept going on about replanting that tree there, and hunting on the mountain with the two peaks on the right.
I tried to talk them into a 2ft x 5ft canvas, and show it all, but the wife says there is only 40 inches of wall space she is willing to use for it.
He has stories about the mountain to the left as well.
I prefer the first one also.

I’d prefer the 1st crop. More vastness.

Allows Edits? YesI’m afraid I’m going to vote for the second one – having that right side of the peak included at the top kind of makes it feel like a more snug composition to me. This is probably a pretty subjective difference though.

Allows Edits? YesI prefer the 1st one. The -lacement of the gapgives me a sense of balance and adds to the rule of 3rds Stephen mentioned. The 2nd one ends on an upward slope on the right frame edge and exclusion of that peak seems incomplete and unbalanced to me.

Allows Edits? YesSo as a followup for everyone, Thanks for those comments , I am emotionally invested in this as the “Client “is one of my Closest friends. He is suffering from Dementia and is moving into the second stages of the disease. I talked to his Wife this morning and we found a good solution. As I’m printing it, I just purchased a 44 ft roll of exhibition grade canvas, and I make the frames and mount the canvas, I’m going to do both and she will swap them out now and again. He owned this Ranch for many years before moving to Wyoming and still has very strong memories of it.
Thanks all for your comments.
