Allows Edits? YesLovely shot. I would do a little bit of dodging of the people in the foreground as they kind of get lost in the rocks but I do love how they lead into the S curve of the river

Allows Edits? YesThanks. I did lighten them but was having trouble getting the blend right. There are also 2 gondolas over the river that are in heavy shadow.

Allows Edits? YesI have a hard time rendering separation of subjects in b&w, especially when they are close in tones and colors. Even on this, in addition to the people on the rocks, the rocks themselves seem a bit lacking in contrast. The color version preserves a lot of that, except in the sky where the b&w has more contrast.

I often have a hard time seeing possible or even needed improvements in my pictures until after I have let others see them.

Allows Edits? YesI think of this particular photo you would need to go very hard on the dodging of those people and render the rocks a lot darker. Get a dark room we never had any problem at all doing stuff like that, but for some reason people don’t like to do it in digital.
The other thing that sticks out to me here is that the rocks themselves for the very prominent curve in the photo from the bottom left hand corner to where the people are walking then back in to the river and finally ending at the bend in the river, I would probably be doing something with the contrast in those areas. I think you’ve got the raw material for a good shot here. I think you’ve done all the work in camera that needed to be done.

Allows Edits? YesI certainly think that’s a big improvement in terms of showing those people. And I think it improves the overall image too.

Allows Edits? YesI was about to comment that the frame is really to large to effectively isolate the people with the busy scene behind them, the crop does help, If it were mine I would have removed the people, but that’s more my anti social attitude coming out. Hind site is 20-20, a much lower perspective showing the fishermen with their body’s above the waterline would have helped a lot, I’ve gotten to the point where I don’t shoot scenes that require much editing , I used to spend cold winter days in front of the computer editing all day, now I’ve opted for other pursuits, but I have never been a user of the dodger, burner brush. I may enhance light with a mask now and then but for the most part, If the light aint right I shoot something else, which tends to lead to a lot of ground engaging macros.

Allows Edits? YesThanks for the comment. My personal tendency is to make people small in the frame if present at all, especially within a landscape. I think of it as “putting them (us) in their (our) place”–part of the landscape but second fiddle.
The only way for me to get a lower perspective is to clammer out on the rocks myself. I’ve grown much more cautious, especially when I’m also carrying a camera and tripod that seem to upset my balance. And I’ve gotten less sure-footed as I’ve somehow gotten old!

As a fellow “Old Man” the Carbon Fiber Man Billy Camera Monopod / Walking stick / Cane has become a good friend which travels with me always. I added a quick release Manfroto camera mount and base to mine. The doctor wants to do a double hip replacement on me and I’ve forded rocky streams and climbed mountains with one of these and I’m by no means a small guy, Friends describe me as a gorilla.

Allows Edits? YesThanks for the referral. I sometimes use my tripod in this way but often find myself wondering about using my hiking poles instead for bilateral balance.

Allows Edits? YesDouble hip replacement sounds pretty intense mate. If that does come to fruition, please let us know before you go in, so that we can do some photography challenges that are possible for folks who aren’t as mobile for a time.

Allows Edits? YesOh, and my father just had a double knee replacement and it has been an absolute game changer for him. He was worried, but after the first one he could not get to get the second one quick enough. It has been nothing but positive and has given him a new lease on life and mobility. He absolutely loves it.
