wow- I love this image – great composition IMHO – well done – it is difficult to critique this image. I am a bit of a focus freak and find I am often disappointed in the “sharpness” of my own images. I think this would be an exceptional image if the person and boat were in sharp focus. I am finding it difficult to see where your focal point was. The closest part of the building on the left seems in good focus whereas the closest part of the buildings on the right seems a little blurred. I am just wondering if the shot was taken at f11 or f16 it might bring more in focus – not sure it would – but might be worth a try – if you get a chance to take a similar image at different f-stops I would love to see them. Or maybe it’s just my eyes – I am starting to think I need a new pair of eyeglasses. 🙂 Otherwise – I don’t think I would change a thing.

Many thanks David for positive critique. I have a couple of these gondola shots, will have a sharp look at the focus of those.

Nice composition, nice light.
Maybe dodge the gondola and people in it a bit so the focus goes to them. (and burn the buildings at the left next to the Gondola and in the deep end)
Also add some vibrance to the flowers, the gondola/people and some other details. (try and see what works)
If at all possible I would try to heal or clone away the green whatever it is hanging out of the window. It deserves to be seen at a larger size.

Very pleasing image, @capetown99. At this size I don’t feel able to say much about sharpness, although at the setting you used I feel it should all be reasonably sharp.
The only thing that disturbs me is the overlap of the gondolier and building. In a perfect world he would have been a little further away, or you would have moved a little to your left, or you would have waited another 5 seconds for the gondola to move on (and the patch of sunlight would, of course, have moved with it!).
My only other thought is “GondolaS’ – I can only see the one…

Not a comment. Have you tried it in Black and White? Could be wrong but looks like it could work.

Hi Arther, I’ve got another one in B&W which I’ll post. I gave it a good bit of contrast. Same settings, with post done in Silver Effecs Pro
