I don’t know what to think. One minute I think it’s a great new tool then I’m wondering about what can be believed anymore. So far I’m thinking edits are ok but total creation from a description…well maybe not.
This is a total creation from one simple sentence in Nano Banana Pro. Photo?, Imagination? I don’t even know where to begin…

Yes@reyers My position comes from someone operating in the realm of combating Child Trafficking, and I am terrified by how it can be used to target children through fake videos that appear to be from parents, friends, relatives, gaining children’s trust to lure them into real life abductions, getting them to commit suicide on camera, and a hundred other ways I could go on about just as sick and cruel. The “764” Network has AI programs that can within seconds Identify a child creating an account, research that future victim, and contact them to begin the grooming from the position of a trusted individual. This technology has the ability to be used for evil in ways we cant imagine, with just a sentence. Where most folks think hey I can make a cool photo with just a sentence, there is a whole other unconsidered use. My well defined position is We don’t have the protections in place to turn this loose on society, if it’s even possible to protect humanity from it, and there will be children who will, and are, suffering unthinkable evil from this technology. I would give up all the photos I could create or edit with a sentence in less then the blink of an eye to stop that from happening.

Allows Edits? YesLord have mercy. Thank you for fighting the good fight @robertapple I know this sort of abuse happens. I have a former colleague who is a writer and retired social worker who has written a powerful novel on this subject which I have avoided reading. It’s a work of fiction but based on her work on this subject, with victims and law enforcement.
I had no idea about the 764 network and its dark use of technology. Tragically, the genie is out of the bottle; and, even a concerted effort (unlikely) by governments and the Tec Bros, while making a dent in the evil, won’t stop it.

Allows Edits? YesI don’t denigrate the use of imagination to conjure a scene. I do believe that acknowledging the craft and tools used is essential.
As a teen, I wanted that car!

Maybe there needs to be some industry standards for acknowledgment.
As a 70 something I can tell you that these cars are a lot of fun. No answer as to how Banana got my car’s colour correct….it wasn’t in the prompt…

Allows Edits? YesIt is a digitally generated image using Large Language Modeling. Not a photograph.
Painting often starts with the same mental tools–imagining a scene and its elements. Then, the paints, medium and all the rest kick in. Some of the paintings I have seen are indistinguishable from photographs, just that detailed and realistic in rendering elements and perspective and color.
Using words, especially a few words, to generate a picture? Nothing wrong with it. Just don’t ask people to mistake the tool of language, simple complex for another craft.
