Allows Edits? YesGidday crew, yes been awhile, my only excuse is laziness and motivation…….I’ll shake it off soon, I hope 🙂
I just did a ride up to Shark bay to visit my grand kids, here’s a shot of my only grand daughter 16 month old Miller. She is so full of spark and attitude <3 I am not that into portraits, I would like to learn a bit more though, so I am throwing this one out there for the wolves.

Allows Edits? YesHi Beaky, good to see you back!
Great photo of your granddaughter. You have caught the action well. The left eye is sharp and has great details. It would have been great to have the same details on the right eye as well. Also, you could shoot from her eye level and that would work better I think 🙂

Allows Edits? Noshe looks like a cute & spunky little girl. her parents will surely have their hands full with her. i’m not a people photographer, so take this with a grain of salt, but the wb looks a little yellow to me.
the eyes are nice and sharp and i love how she’s pointing at you.

Allows Edits? YesThat’s a great portrait and you captured the emotion perfectly. I think that only this crop is a bit problematic, the bottom part looks too tight because we can’t see the whole hand.

Allows Edits? YesThank you @dahliaambrose I couldn’t crouch down any further 🙂
Thanks @loki Hows this one Beth I agree so I backed the WB off to as shot.
Thanks @jasenkag I would have liked her full hand in there too unfortunately this is as shot on the bottom edge. I wasn’t actually framing the shot I was firing away with my old saddle bag camera and grotty old lens 🙂 Need to take a little more time I guess.

I had to share this one as I would have loved this one to have turned out a bit better. Miller with her twin brother Harry, sadly Millers face is a touch out of focus 🙁 Born at 32 weeks.

Great facial expressions on both. The personalities are shining through and that is so very often what you want in portraits, even of people not related to you.
One of the lessons I have learned with my grandsons is that there are many many many times you get an almost great natural portrait. The finger just out of the frame makes this a near miss for others but not for you. I have a somehwhat similar one of one of our grandsons, slightly out of focus but the worst part was not remembering what he was pointing out and telling Grandma about. Don’t forget to document as you go. You’ll want to know and others are very likely to ask. I know this isn’t exactly “Shark Tank” feedback, but….
For me, the background toys are also a bit of a distraction. I would probably keep the framing you have but do another that’s a head and shoulder shot. I tend to keep my focal length wider than I think I’ll need it because you never know which way the child is going to move and you need the frame wide for the best crop.
But, the main thing is, don’t let artistic considerations get in the way of snapping the shutter. They grow way faster than you remember. Experience will teach you how to get the keeper images you are most proud to show to others. Over time (and it won’t take long) and with a bit of self-critique later, you’ll be able to compose in a reflex action.

Allows Edits? Yes@stevewalker Thanks for the input Steve, Grandpa will have to put in a bit more effort next time. You are spot on with her pointing at me as it adds to the shot for myself, yet as Jasenka said it was a distraction for her.

Allows Edits? YesGorgeous subject. But get down lower – preferably on her eye level.
Kids are a perfect opportunity to get good at portraits so I expect to see a lot more shots like this, Beaky 😉
