Allows Edits? YesThis time around we learn a little more about David Clare, @davidc
• Tell us a little about yourself and your photography journey.
I started as an electrician in various places around the country. Then I got out of that and worked in a school as a media, IT and sound technician.
I only started photography late in life. My brother-in-law died in 2015 and I was left a Nikon D90, a 18-100 lens and a 50mm 1.8 lens that my sister passed on to me. I looked on the internet for basic information on the camera and settings. Then I found Lightstalking. Took a while before I submitted a photo into the shark tank.
Where do you live?
I live in the Northwest of England.
Hobbies & interests?
I have played in a band since I was 17.
How long have you had an interest in Photography?
I caught the photo bug about 6 months after joining Light Stalkers. My approach was to try to copy the photos that members were submitting.
• What is the best advice you have received so far regarding photography?
Best advice I received was “Its not the equipment it’s the vision”. Having said that, I bought a D7200, Nikon 18-200, Tokina 100mm 2.8 macro, Tokina 11-16 2.8 wide angle, Sigma 150-600 5.6 contemporary, Sigma 70-100 2.8 over the last 5 years. The 70-200 is the best. I would use this if I could only have one.
• How do you maintain inspiration?
Inspiration is easy for me; I have two daughters and grand kids. One lives in the lake district; it is stunning up there.
• Do you have a favourite type of photography?
I like to try anything from industrial to macro. I have a bit of a wrong way around with learning Photography.
• How would you describe your photographic journey to date?
I used Photoshop, Premiere Pro and After Effects for years before I started taking photos.
Most of the basics I learned was from Light Stalkers, mainly. I like some of the YouTube channels, Henry Turner being the main one.
• What is your favorite image right now?
A couple of images I like of my own.
• If people want to follow more of your work where should they go?

Allows Edits? YesNice write up and very informative. Folks often seem apologetic about their path to “serious” photography and so often it sounds like a very familiar story. When you said you live in the NW England, I assumed Lake District.
Very nice samples here. I especially like the Bath Cathedral image-and your way of viewing it.

Allows Edits? YesYeah I want to do the entire Penine Way one day. That entire area is brutally under-rated as an outdoor destination. Suits me though – crowds were pretty thin. 😉
