Sparrow in my backyard.Hi everyone, my name is Rod and I am just getting started in photography after having taken it in High School in 1987. It’s been awhile and I’m having to relearn everything. It’s definitely more of a challenge now as I suffer from Essential Tremors which makes it hard sometimes to get a steady shot. Anyway here’s my first offering that I took in my backyard a couple of days ago. I have a Canon T3 and someday I hope to improve on my equipment. Thanks.

          Good start, Rod.

If you have unstable hands and want sharper shots, you are going to want to start using fast shutter speeds and open apertures. Look at how sports shooters get sharp images and emulate them.

Extremely sound advice, i must say. Additionally, there is are loads of teaching aids and resources online (a lot of them, on this particular website). Since your craft is a re-ignition of passion, I suggest you delve into the theory aspect of it all. It’ll no doubt strengthen your foundations.

One method to achieve fast shutter speeds for most shots:  Using Aperture Mode, select the widest aperture your camera allows or maybe just choose f/4.   Next set the ISO to 1600. So, even in a bright setting such as mid-day, you will usually get a fast shutter speed which will help eliminate blur when hand holding your camera.
