I dove right into the Shark Tank when I first joined LS & totally missed the place to introduce myself! Shark Tank is the first group I’ve ever worked with that gives me in-depth tips and insights that actually help me improve. I’m loving the feedback I’ve been getting from so many generous experts, I am highly recommending Shark Tank to everyone. Putting my foot in the water here is the best thing I’ve ever done to improve my photography!
I started photography years ago with an old Kodak digital I inherited when my father died. After that bit the dust, I moved on with a Sony Cybershot, then graduated to an upgraded model thanks to my spouse who enthusiastically supports my photography and surprised me with a DSLR. The DSLR was a huge incentive to start learning the basics of photography. (A facebook photography friend of mine laughed at me when he learned that I didn’t know what depth of field meant.) I’ve competed in my city’s annual competition for the past three years, starting in Amateur Adult & moving up last year to Proficient. I love being a part of the Lighstalking family! I started competing in Fabulous Flora & Abstracts and am now also doing insects, furry “friends” & wildlife. I try to dabble in as many categories as I can to learn what I enjoy most. I also love studying the great masters of different art forms (especially painting) to train my eye for composition and color. I am always seeking out new tips, Lightstalking is now my go-to home base. What’s most important to me as a photographer is embracing the creative journey that allows me to share the joys of what I see in nature through photo ebooks to my friends & family.

Allows Edits? YesHi Marty , thank you for posting a few lines about your photographic life thus far , So glad you are enjoying the Ls community and your time posting in the ST section on the forum.
Your reason for viewing other forms of Art like the masters of the past is truly well spent time because we can all learn so much from them and indeed all other forms of creativity including visual arts which will help us all improve in our own photography in the end .. Good on you 🙂
Once again thanks for sharing a few words with us , it is lovely to know a little more about you and your journey.

Hi Dahlia, Beth, Tersha & Federico, thank you for your friendly welcomes! I have a true story to tell about when I was in project management years ago. We had to write ISO9001 procedures for everything we did, based on new owners due to an acquisition. A coworker who was a good friend gave me his procedure draft and asked me to give him constructive criticism. He said he knew who his real friends were if they were willing to carve up his draft with their red pens pointing out the errors! (Like Shark Tank LOL). To hear something is beautiful doesn’t help to improve anything, especially when you are trying to achieve the highest quality results. So I adopted his philosophy and never looked back. All feedback is good in my book! And I am equally willing to give my honest opinion if asked! If I ever have spinach between my teeth, please tell me! And I will do the same. 😀
