Be grateful if you could help. I almost missed the moment and had not put my ISO up to help cope with the low light. I can get rid of the lines by taking out noise in Camera Raw, but it does not leave much detail. Have just downloaded the Nik Software Collection – but so far, even that has not managed to fix it. However have still to get used to handling it.

Allows Edits? YesHow to remove horizontal banding.
Not knowing what all software you are armed with this is my best suggestion.

Up close it looks less like horiz lines and more like noise. How did you obtain this artifact? I put it through Neat Image with the remove All Noise option and got this. there is some loss of detail, not sure how it compares to CR.

Thanks, Robert, though 90% of these links are for video. I added a -video and a few were non-video and the rest came back to video again. Thanks for suggesting.

Thanks 3cpo, however the image I am told is “No longer available”.

I’m sorry: I deleted it after a few days and I don’t have it anymore.

That’s very strange. I’ve never seen anything like it. Is it just on that picture? Because… my gut says sensor failure, or approaching sensor failure.

I found this image- which has a similar appearance- and indeed it was sensor failure.

Certainly not perfect, but then again I was working with a reatively low res JPG file. You should be able to get better results using the original RAW file.
Topaz DeNoise 6 (Jpeg with debanding option), then sharpened using Raya Pro plug-in. Topaz have a 30 day trial – full version, no limitations btw.

Wow’ David – that’s very impressive indeed ! I will try Nik D’Fine first and if not, then will download Topaz. The Raya Pro will not work with Photoshop Elements or Lightroom, so that’s out for me, but I will go in steps and see what happens. Many thanks for your feedback.

I too would like to know what caused those lines. The only time I ever experienced that was when I printed a picture.
Really looking forward to an answer. Thanks in advance.

Getting those lines when printing is a completely different thing, and much more common. When Printing it is likely the ink cartridges running out of ink, or the heads are clogged and need cleaning.

You have got me really worried Kent. Nevertheless, I have just taken a photo (with the same lens as an additional check) and there is no banding on that at all – would it occur on every one that I took if it was the sensor ?? I should have mentioned that the histogram was very far to the left on the original image.
Thanks David, I will try Topaz, and this will be a good excuse. I have been meaning to try it for a while.

Mistyisle, hopefully I can put your mind at rest a bit. I was reading the bits nobody reads at the very back of my camera manual & read this:
‘Striping or flicker may appear under lighting such as flourescent lighting and LED lighting fixture. This is characteristic of MOS sensors which serve as the camera’s pickup sensors. This is not a malfunction.’
So basically it’s a technical artifact more than anything more permanent. -

Many thanks for pointing that out Darren ! I have just seen your post as I am revisiting the image.

Hoping it wasn’t an ongoing problem. I can’t afford any more camera gear so I’d feel for anyone whose gear failed…
