Allows Edits? YesThe amount of pseudo-intellectual gatekeepers in photography has always bugged the crap out of me.
Yes, we’ve all read Sontag. You’re very, very smart. Well done.
Some of us just don’t give a shit.
Shoot the things you love shooting, folks. And don’t listen to any of these insufferable bores.

Allows Edits? YesI would put manufacturers in this category as well selling upper end lenses at a 2000% profit margin to keep out the rif raf.

Allows Edits? YesSaw the title and thought, What the $h1t have I said. 😆 😆 😆
Haven’t a clue who or what Sontag is, but I would agree 100%.

Laughing after reading DavidC’s post, no clue on this end about Sontag either.
With that said, I’ve learned that I’m not good at creating something to be photographed. What I find I am fascinated with, is taking a photograph of what I find created all around me by life and the world we live in.

Allows Edits? YesSusan Sontag was a very well-known photographer who wrote the book “on photography”. I think she has some very interesting thoughts and I’m not trying to be down on her, but by the same token so many people read it and use it as an excuse to gatekeep other photographers. about what is worthwhile or valid.
You especially see it among folks who have done formal education in photography at university level because the only thing those folks teach is how to read philosophers to fill up the course curriculum. Problem is it just produces parrots rather than thinkers.

Allows Edits? NoI took photography at the university level, and I found it to be extrememely enriching and rewarding. The professors were surprisingly plain spoken and unpretentious, unlike many other fields, like history or sciences. I’m sorry you had such a hollow experience.

Allows Edits? YesPeople find meaning wherever they want to.
Commenting on it is, by definition, subjective.
