Took this a couple of nights ago at this Australian seaside resort where we are on holiday. Fly back to New Zealand on Wednesday.

Hi Patrick, many thanks for your comment. I must admit that I am pretty forgetful (lazy?) when it comes to changing the white balance setting. I tend to fix it, if necessary, in post production. This image would be enhanced in that way, I feel sure, should have noticed. At the moment, my wife and I are in an airport hotel, Brisbane, ready for an early morning flight back home to Wellington, NZ. Will further edit after 🙂

Allows Edits? YesThis image has a documentary feel; I can see it as a part of a travel series or something like that. Fire is very hard to photograph and expose properly, I suppose that overexposed parts of the image can’t be fixed here.

Nice to see people photos! You might try cropping just to the left of the fire to put more weight on the chef and the stuff that would be removed doesn’t really help tell the story. The blurred person in the back is kinda nice. To bad about the blown out fire… maybe try bracketing exposure next time?

Jasenka @jasenkag – Thanks for your comments! Yes, you are right the overexposed parts of the image, ie the flames, cannot be fixed.
Lenny @el-dub – thanks for your comments, too! In recent times I have basically forgotten about the possibility of bracketing the exposure, so it is a very timely reminder. Will have to get the option back into my thinking and practice. Excellent point!

Allows Edits? YesI have slept on that beach more than one occasion. I doubt you could do that these days.
Great shot. Haven’t been up that way in 25 years.

Wow, Rob, 25 years. It was our second time in Mooloolaba, we had been there 11 years before. It is a very nice place to unwind, lots of very good eating places and walks. We also do love Noosaville, ie not quite as trendy as Noosa, but lovely beside the river. Laid back, but plenty of things to do …… and great eating! 🙂
Also, thanks for your comment.

When bracketing do not forget to include ISO in your changes. With fire, boosting up ISO to 800 or 1000 might help freeze the flames and well as compensate for the surrounding darkness.

Allows Edits? YesHi Jim, that’s a beautiful frame. The fire is blown out. I think exposing for the fire would also work great for the image 🙂
