I went down to our south coast last week with a few birds on my wish list and I was determined to find them. These birds only occur on our coastline and I only had one day available for photography so I called in the help of a local bird guide.

Finding them was only half of the problem solved as they are all forest dwellers so lighting was a real problem. I thus used a speedlite to partially help me out but it was not always good enough depending on the distance from the bird.

The Knysna Turaco is one of our most beautiful birds. The underside of its wings is the brightest of red and stunningly beautiful when in flight.

Maximize in flickr for max detail.
