LED Light Throwdown

It was 5 months ago that Federico Alegria mentioned colored LED lights to me for some long forgotten reason. ( @federicoalegria ) I did buy a simple ULANZ multi colored, strobe, still, you name it – light which mounts on a hot shoe or light stand or just about anywhere. I promised Federico I would eventually post some shots. I guess usually used perhaps to jazz up some video, but I chose a still life to see how the light would change a scene.  Does anyone else use colored LEDs? Please post your images. I’d like to see how others use them.

I played around with LEDs a while back, and have been wanting to get them out again, so now I’m inspired!

AMazing how color changes things. I like these very much. I did a video of the changing colors, but I don’t think I can post it – would that be correct?  I need to find some different applications for the lights…

Love the works with the LED lights Pat. Did you use the coloured gels on top of the regular white lights? I have not used LED lights so far in photography, but a friend uses them for toy photography – the same Ulanzi brand 🙂

No, I didn’t use any gels. I can set the LED to various colors as well as having it fade from one color to another, do a strobe effect using changing colors, or one color – and likely other settings I’ve yet to figure out.

Nice shots and an interesting Idea, i should photo the front of our house, we have a large white compartmental wall in the front lit by led spot lights, my wife changes the colors on them for holidays and such.

DIY – LED

OK, I just posted a timelapse video cycling through the colored lights – for what its worth.   I tried some more “stills” but the colors were barely there.

Last night before the blizzard hit, I got out some dead roses and stuck them in the snow. My LED light clips on my phone as well as on a hot shoe. I’m finding the colors more vivid in the dark and this time I could see how the colors changed the color of the roses – one was naturally yeallow and the other a pink purple. I did use a radial gradient to expose each rose head. The original shot followed by the edited version.

I cant really pick a favorite, I like them all, I ordered a set of four battery operated, remote controlled, water proof,  adjustable intensity, 35 color LEDs this morning. Going to be experimenting with this in the future, cant wait to take them up to the mountains and try them under the canopy in the dark areas or at night.
