Has anyone seen something like this? I spotted this “soul” of a shoe in the middle of a sidewalk with no one around in St. John, New Brunswick. Very strange! I think there’s a story here somewhere…

Allows Edits? YesMy paternal grandfather was a shoe repairman. This is the inside of the full sole (that includes the heel) that has come unglued and left behind. Way back then, soles were generally sewn onto the last, not just glued. Now, glues are used for both sole and heel.
Still, it is a bit of a puzzle. Even if you know what it is and begs for a story.

How interesting, thanks Steve! Good to know exactly how the full sole separated from the last so cleanly. Makes perfect sense. It looks like yellowed glue was left behind.

Allows Edits? YesThe how still begs the question of the story. I’m gonna have to give that some thought for my writing group.

I love that! Be sure to let me know what you all come up with. The thing that struck me the most about the sole was how clean the separation was from the shoe. Why would someone intentionally place it neatly on the sidewalk? Is there a hidden message for someone?

Allows Edits? YesI remember years back one pair of boots I had – the soul of one of the literally fell off. I was extremely irritated. But I think I actually put it in the bin rather than just leave it in the middle of the road. lol

Thanks for responding on this one, Rob & Patrick. LOL, it was funny spotting it. My daughter immediately came up with the title, so of course I knew I had to capture the moment. 😀 Thanks for the link, Patrick, I figured someone else out there would surely have something like it.

Allows Edits? YesVery interesting find Marty. I have seen some like these too, but the most interesting was an umbrella at the bottom of the river many years ago. The water was not too deep and so I could see it. It definitely made me curious as to why someone would have left it in there or maybe it just fell in there and they couldn’t pick it up. 🙂
