Not Mad Max, but a Green Lacewing Larvae (Mallada signatus) – approx 2mm – 3mm in length.

The larvae are often called ‘trash carriers’ or ‘junk bugs’ because they carry the remains of their prey on their backs. They have two pairs of hollow jaws which they use to grasp and then suck out the body fluids of their prey. Larvae range in size from 2 mm at first emergence to 8 mm just before they pupate. You can see the ant exo-skeletons on it’s back, used as camouflage. They will give you a nasty nip if disturbed.

Taken in my front yard using my usual macro setup: Olympus OM-D Em1ii with m.zuiko 60mm macro lens PLUS 10mm & 16mm macro extension tubes. Godox tt350o flash with Cygnsutech diffuser.

Reminds me of the Monty Python movie, Holy Grail, when the guy is yelling out “Bring out your Dead” 🙂  Very cool macro!
