First time that we had seen this building, but we love it. Apparently it was built on a lean for two reasons – 1) as a nod to Wellington’s notorious wind. 2) To withstand potential tsunamis. Taken on my cellphone. Was just about to put it into David’s cellphone competition, but then realised that I had edited in Affinity Photo, so not allowed. However, I may well edit in cellphone and submit there too!

Allows Edits? YesInteresting building and information Jim. The horizontals in the background are tilted, not sure why. Other than that, I cannot see anything that can be changed in this image 🙂

Thanks Dahlia, I have corrected to match the shoreline, which gives it even more of a lean. Of course some of that is because I am so close. Also shown is a pic of just the front of the building taken from a distance.

Built to meet 100 per cent of the building code for a structure of its importance level, the tower is one of New Zealand’s safest buildings. Thirteen base isolators have been installed within its foundations to provide a high level of resilience against earthquakes.

Allows Edits? YesFascinating building Jim! I like the corrected shot, especially with the reflections. I like the wider shot just for reference.

You did well to isolate the building Jim. We missed this on when we were there. Those protrusions on the side are very interesting. Are they there to breakup the force of the wind?

Sorry, Rob, in being so long in responding. I haven’t been able to find out the answer to your question yet. When you were in New Zealand, I did not know that this even existed. I only found out by chance after we had moved house to down here.
Here is an online video which talks about the tower, including the fact that it leans far more than the Leaning Tower of Pisa – https://tinyurl.com/5kz4exkc
