Photo of the Week—June 7th

A bit late this week, it’s been a rough one 😅

For the 802th weekly photography challenge, Diane called in for some intersection between nature and micro technology found in nature. Several abstractions and cool close-ups were shared but this fascinatingly sharp image simply blew my mind 🤯

In Anne’s words:

If we think of technology as tools to manipulate the environment, what came to mind is the female cicada’s thin round black ovipositor she uses to saw and drill into tree trunks to lay eggs. Here it’s already inserted into the tree (coming from her abdomen).

Also because cicadas in my country are greenish so this looks quite exotic to me. Thanks @annehornsby for sharing this stunning macro shot with us!
