OK the 2nd thread is getting too long so let’s start another.

I’ll kick off with this go-away bird demonstrating where its lipstick is coming from.

They really do stand out. The males anyway. Like many birds the female’s color is more subtle. Fun to watch when there are a lot of them flitting about trying to find room at the feeders. They love that thistle sock and yes we do have a squirrel that visits occasionally. I take the sock down when I see it. So far I’ve been able to keep him (her) from tearing it to shreds. πŸ™‚

Snapped this Black Sparrowhawk from my patio this morning. A little too far really, but enough detail to appreciate his colour patterns. Its name appears to be unsuitable if seen from below but from the ‘other side’ it’s almost totally black.

One of my favourite raptors for the simple reason that it’s only one of about two birds preying on the hadeda ibis – a bird I hate with a passion.

@tersha Hadeda Ibises have the ugliest call which they spread around in super abundance. They ‘shout’ any time of day without any reason at all, sounding like they’re in a permanent state of panic, in groups up to 20. Even at midnight. I thus chase them whenever I can – don’t want them within hearing distance. Oh yes, then they also defecate all over everything – not sparingly. Birds from hell!
