Revised version for critique

Attended my local camera club’s critiquing session last night. I had reworked this image from its previous post and got only a little feedback from the expert and others. In all of the images, his approach seemed to be in relation to layouts in print publications and his recommendations mainly about cropping. Interested to hear what others might say.

frankly, i’m null about publication oriented feedback; however, i must say the composition of the frame is a vibrant example of how to intertwine a set of visual rules we all are somehow used to with the bold nature of visible light

also, i feel your point of view is honest — something visual imagery lacks more and more nowadays…

thank you. The main critiquer’s background was in journalism and he had spent hours with editors struggling over how to fit the image he was often assigned to produce into the space for a written story or space allotted.

I have struggled with a sense of “honesty” in my image making. I take it the term to refer to “as it was” in real life. Frankly, I’m only a little interested in that as I don’t trust my memory to tell me “how it really was” since my senses look for a see potential for an image and my image making is driven by what affects me rather than verisimilitude. In other words, I hope to evoke an emotion I long for and work within the constraints of my capture and my skills to produce it.

I don’t mind mind the square crop , I just would have pulled back a bit more to get the center bush more in the center on the thirds and done some subtle lighting changes to emphasize the natural S curve in the water which also forms a dual leading line to both decks, I went back to your original post of this scene for this edit which is a bit less saturated and just bumped the vibrancy a bit and added a subtle vignette to just the sky as there is a natural on in the water. Just a few Ideas you may or may not want to incorporate.

Thanks for this feedback. I was a bit concerned that I might have overcooked the saturation, especially in the foreground.
