I like to think that I take the time to find images. I usually have some sort of a plan. But once in a while the conditions reveal themselves at an inopportune time when I least expect them. Today was a great example. I got up early this morning and had no plans to take an image. In fact, the only reason I saw this is because I was letting my dog out to do her business. I live in an apartment complex, so landscape was the last thing on my mind. As soon as I opened the door, I saw it. I knew it would only last a few minutes. I had to decide. Are you going to grab your camera and make an attempt? Or are you going to let it pass and chalk it up to a missed opportunity? I chose the former. It is not a portfolio shot but I am glad I made the attempt.

Learning to love a “not a portfolio shot” is an important skill. Living the moment, not sleepwalking through life is the lesson that photography can teach.
