Greetings everyone, sorry that I haven’t been around for a while, due to a variety of things. Hope you don’t mind critiquing this image that I took at a Steampunk Festival. These two ladies were having a break from the festival activities and looking around the public gardens. Please do not hold back – be as tough as possible! 😉

I have to say that I love all things steampunk! To my eye there is little negative to say about your image. Setting the ladies in the archway is a masterstroke and the framing is excellent. The light is good and the exposure spot on. The only thing I would suggest is to edit out the figure in the background on the extreme right – looks like another photographer with part of a tripod leg showing. A very minor thing. Well done!

Allows Edits? YesHi, Jim. The ladies are so crisply on focus and colorfully dressed I thought it would be helpful to emphasize them by desaturating the background colors – trees, stone arch, ground stones. See what you think!

Here is the end product after your suggestions
Stephen @stevet – A good suggestion, thanks, I have removed most of the photographer except at the top where it does not seem to be a problem. What do you think?
@annehornsby – Good thinking, Anne, thanks! What do you think now, hope that I haven’t overdone!

i do wish both were looking at you rather than making me wonder what’s so interesting off to your left.

@lightandshadow – Hi Steve, thanks for alerting me to that, I have now fixed!
Re your concern, well it’s too late to do anything about it, indeed it is a bit of a shame. Still, I do think it’s still an arresting image! 🙂

There was excellent lighting on them Misty… so shadows weren’t a concern so I would have moved a few steps either left or right to remove the archway that goes through the hat.(although I don’t know if you had the room for to). Moving to the right you would have been able to use the bricks as a background… moving left… with the bulk of the dresses and the combined size they make, you probably would have been able to block out the photographer in the background (although I don’t know what else would be back there)
