Not sure if this one really works. Mainly looking for feedback on the composition. But whatever you come up with…

The Atmosphere is quite striking Rob , great leading lines and depth , it’s a very evocative image with a clear artistic intention.

A slight refinement of the foreground element as it takes up a fair bit of room and with it’s abstract nature makes it a bit distracting.

The surfers are a bit centrally placed the rule of thirds might create a more dynamic balance , for me this is a very good story telling shot mate , suggesting perhaps the end of a session.

The OOF blob in the foreground doesn’t work for me at all. It interferes with the scene and its amorphous shape and texture and blocking of the broader scene robs the image of the attraction the rest might hold.

If the blob weren’t there, I think I’d like less foreground, the 2 surfers larger but retaining the dramatic sky and mix of colors.

Yeah, the blob is actually a blue bottle jellyfish so the intention was to have it as part of the obvious scene of a beach, but clearly that is not coming across. Seems like it might be a bit too dominant and a bit unobvious about what it actually is.

Yeah, I too think the foreground is too prominent and cuts off the one surfers foot. Also,  that black curved line keeps drawing my attention away from the surfers.

I agree with others comments that the foreground as it is is a distraction. I’d add that if the object in the foreground was more in focus so as to be discernible and if it were a lesser % of the image it could possibly work. Even if it were beach trash it might carve out a different story.

Just curious do any of you actually have blue bottle jellyfish where you are? I kind of assumed they are all around the world, but maybe I’m wrong?

There is a good chance we do but probably called something else , it happens a lot with other species maybe a slight variant , At first i thought the jellyfish in the image was a plastic bottle but when you told us what it was i can easily see it and can just picture what it looks like when in focus.

Yeah, if you get an onshore wind here then the beaches get inundated with them and it’s a really good idea to reconsider swimming. Usually they just s sting, but last time my eldest got stung by one he actually started to have some breathing problems and his glands were swelling up, which was a bit scary.

Always safety first with nature , glad he is ok but yeah not a good time to be knocking about the water when they are rolling in on the tides.
