It’s been a while since I’ve put one in here…

Looking forward to hear the thoughts.

I like this, and I think it’s pertinent because I only just finished writing an article on minimalist landscape photography about half an hour ago.

And I think this one works really well. The blue colour of the ice draws the eye immediately against the more plain foreground and background. The irregular shape of the ice contrasts nicely with the well-placed horizontal horizon. The bird on top of the ice is almost perfectly placed (you really need to look at this one bigger). And all up I would say this execution is extremely good. If I were to have one quibble, it would be to include very slightly more foreground but I think this is an excellent example of the minimalist genre. Nice one.

              Thank you, Rob @admin-2

I’m always torn with indecision about adding foreground in this instance.  As the only thing that was there was more water.

But after thinking about it… I understand what you are saying… and I think having the ice a little higher in the image with a little bit more water below, would add to the isolation of the iceberg from the bottom of the frame.

              Thanx for the help.

Looking at it again, one thing I might add is sharpness around the edge of the iceberg as that would also contrast with the softness of the surrounding area and the horizon.

Thanx, Rob.  @admin  with the software I use, it would be pretty easy to apply

For myself, even with the bird, I’m a bit lost for a sense of scale, I thought I saw boats in the fog, and realized how dirty my screen was. I agree with Rob on the foreground. The lack of color on the water is messing with my brain , though I have seen scenes like this.

Thanx Robert.  It was a ‘grey day’ and I think that affected the water colour.  But the water itself, was pretty grey.  @robertapple

I see a crouching creature, ready to pounce. I do very much like it. I might have wished for slightly more water in the foreground. I also might have found a slow shutter speed to smooth out the minor ripples in the water appealing.

Or, maybe not. My ideas often fail to deliver what I was sure of before I actually did them.

Thank you LandS. After looking at my crop with a more critical eye, I agree with more water in the foreground.  As for the slower shutter speed, it never occurred to me as we were sailing past the iceberg. It’s something that I’ll have to keep in the back of my mind though.                        @lightandshadow

I doubt that a slow shutter speed would have worked from the ship as it moved by. I often do a “doh” when reviewing my images once I get home as well.
