I thought I’d do a nature riff on Patrick’s horror series with masks. ๐ Every year our local arboretum showcases a Pumpkin Village with over 100,000 pumpkins, gourds, and squashes leading up to Halloween and trick-or-treat. These lopped-off pumpkins with their curly-cue tendrils trigger my imagination about what it would be like to see these shape-shifters in the dark as a child. Booooo!!! Eerie shapes doing strange and scary things in the night… the stuff of horror stories and legends. Pareidolia, anyone?

Allows Edits? YesA lot of alien looking pareidolia Marty. Did you shoot these images at night? They have that eerie look that you intended to capture. Lovely set! ๐

Thank you, Dahlia! Interesting question, I’m glad you enjoyed my set. I actually shot these around 11 am in full sun as I stood with my shadow over the pumpkins and under-exposed them. During post-processing, I was able to tweak the contrast to get the eerie look I was after. ๐

Allows Edits? YesI’d be printing some of these out as a little diptych. Love the effect and the subject.

Hi @admin-2, thanks for your suggestion! I love the idea and had to look up what diptych is lol. I enjoy learning new things, and it’s definitely worth trying out. You have gotten me hooked on monochromes. ๐
