Allows Edits? YesI haven’t listened to any of this. I do recoil a bit from the title of the Podcast that seems to celebrate disruption almost for its own sake. That’s its hook into what is almost certainly content where a person celebrates a unique vision–something to be recognized and not directly related to the notion of upsetting expectations as the primary motivator the title inadvertently encourages.
Language matters.
-
November 12, 2025 at 8:36 am #541537
That is a very thoughtful critique, and I completely agree with you—language matters, and the word ‘disruption’ has definitely become loaded and often misused. I totally understand why you’d recoil a bit.
You’ve actually hit on exactly what the podcast’s focus is: unique vision and the intentional process of creating something genuinely new.
The host uses ‘disruption’ not in the Silicon Valley sense of ‘tearing things down just to be different,’ but as a shorthand for the outcome of a truly creative, unique vision—the point where an idea is novel enough that it breaks a conventional mold in a constructive way. The episodes are much more about the deliberate, often slow, process of deep creative work than they are about encouraging a need for shock value.
Since you haven’t listened yet, I’d encourage you to check out one of the conversations. I think you’ll find the content lives up to the ‘unique vision’ side of your interpretation, rather than the ‘upsetting expectations’ side.

Allows Edits? YesAt best, then, the term is used as click-bait. Or, in my case, click-aversion. A shame when there are so many other terms to use to advance the intent and even to lead folks away from the association that word bears.

Allows Edits? YesI would immediately assume it’s taking its lead from start-up culture where disruption absolutely is celebrated for its own sake. As someone with a little bit of a foot in that car, I can see the logic, but I certainly see your point as well.

Very interesting set of images, Patrick.
For those that stop and view them, they draw one’s attention in and somewhat forces the viewer to evaluate/interpret what they are experiencing, both visually and emotionally.

First ever attempt at an inkjet transfer on stretched canvas. I’d call it 30% technical success, 70% failure, but 100% embracing the wabi-sabi and happy accidents. Loving the decayed wheatpaste vibe it gave the face.

Allows Edits? YesI really like the fourth one with the guy with the green colour. It’s one of those shots where you’re not quite sure what you’re looking at at first because it looks like a painting but then you realise the guy is actually real. Then your eyes lose reason. And it takes a few seconds to catch up again. It’s a hard thing to achieve in photography.

It felt like all these compositions were waiting for me today , i walked for no more than half hour mate they just seemed to be there 🙂 , i got my paint and a hot drink and went to sit in the city hall grounds thinking there would be a few opportunities but the place was very quiet other than tourist on a tour with a guide.

Thank you mate , it means a lot to hear they work , as you know i normally go straight to monochrome for my street photos , keeping the colour seems to involve more of a fishing technique to get the shots, i normally go hunting and need to walk for a couple of hours to get the same amount of images lol

That is very kind Robert , thank you for the feedback i agree as well there is a big drive in 2026 for raw authentic hand made stuff it can be anything at all , there is a feeling and the vibe right now about polished work everyone is suspicious of what they are looking at , everyone that writes blogs and talks about Anti AI ( in art this instance ) are saying most people are fed up looking at it so a big pushback in a sense which leads back to what you said about there is a place for it for sure.
On my own views about selling , i never have and to be honest i never will i am making the things i make for myself and then i share it , up to this point that is how i have operated.

Thank you very much Dahlia , tbh these are all just little test of the stencils and i have threw them on some spare surfaces i have for this job hence the chaotic nature ,these are just piece of plain print paper for now , working out how to build them without them getting floppy and too fragile is a challenge , i will build a good collection with the correct material once i know the structure is sound 🙂

Allows Edits? YesHow and when do you guys actually listen to podcasts? My ADHD brain is always running so I managed to listen to about three minutes of a podcast before I need to jump on the computer to look up a new idea. So it doesn’t really work for me unless I am going for a walk and I’m unable to do other stuff. I’d like to listen to more. Quite often if there’s something I specifically wanna know about I will literally copy and paste the transcript of a podcast into AI and ask it to summarise the topic for me. I really don’t have the patience.
-
March 15, 2026 at 10:22 pm #547382
Rob i understand and know that feeling of the need to jump on the computer to look up a new idea.
I do this but my issue is when i try to watch normal everyday TV programs i get a couple of mins into it then lose all focus on what made me start watching it and then i find myself browsing the web or youtube , i am not a big reader of printed book for the same reason but yet i can read all day on the net sometimes and enjoy it 🙂 ..I have no solution to why it happens , pay for a tv licence every year without fail but i never watch it 170 quid for total trash in terms of what they produce these days , its all cooking or dancing or war

I bought some 300 gsm smooth ivory cardstock for use with the cutter , i decided to try it for a full color print and using an matt icc paper profile unrelated to this cardstock this is the result , my point being these look as good as the branded matt paper i would normally use and for 50 sheets of the branded its not far off 50 quid , this cardstock was 40 sheets for 13 quid , doing experiments just got just got a little easier on the pocket.

-
April 3, 2026 at 4:37 pm #547972
To be honest Robert i know nothing about the going rate or the cheapest sources i tend to decide what i need and go to the closest shop , i like to use a physical walk in store when i can , i see many things online far cheaper and it’s all stuff i would use but i don’t do any online banking , in this day and age everything is online so i just need to take it on the chin lol , since i am mostly only printing for myself and not commercial i can manage the cost only doing a few here and there , stencils are much cheaper to do than full colour stuff.

He’s nailed it home.
“A good portrait doesn’t flatter, it reveals.” What a great point to make.
Many, over the years have asked me why I don’t “do portraits” that often. My answer, because the face they want photographed is the mask they want the world to see. I’m not interested in photographing a mask. So, when I’m in a corner of the room and I’m taking photos but people are unaware, THEN faces are seen as they ought to be seen. Afterward, when those photos are looked at, they understand and cherish the photo because the memory of that moment, was captured.

Exactly. Your point about the ‘mask’ perfectly sums up why so much modern photography feels empty. Capturing those unguarded and real moments ,i would take storytelling over esthetics first everyday of the week.
Cheers for watching RG 🙂

Hooah, and thank you. I added him to my saved channels and have already watched another of his vids. Very thoughtful, insightful and a photography book of quotes can be written with all his one-liner comments.
