  One of the few times I’ve ever felt fear in the forest was when I came up on this, the skull was the first thing I Saw , then the hand reaching out, and the eyes staring at me, and the little evil face, Something really bad happened here.

      It grows with its back at the edge of dense forest, facing a meadow. It’s literally in Legendary Sioux Chief Sitting Bull’s Winter Camp Site, My theory is when he returned here with prisoner’s from the army, rival tribes, settlers, ect. they were tortured to death where that thing grows. You can feel it before you see it, something is off with the forest.

        Actually the tree fellon the land and just the roots were in the water – likely was a streamside tree whose root system was eroded over time by the water in the channel. Happens frequently on stream edges.

      I looked it up, Robert. Guesstimates are they were alive between 600 and 900 years ago. The extreme heat and dry air of the Namib desert make it too arid for the wood to rot. Weird, eh?

  Every one tells you ,you have to go to sinks canyon state park, water runs in a hole in the ground an comes out 600 yards away out of another hole in the ground, 6 hours later, kind of like hooking up a garden hose at a very slow dribble and run it uphill and wait for the water to come out, and the campground camp sites are barely big enough to park in and stacked on top of each other, and truly the most interesting thing there was a dead tree in the parking lot. And it was only a 6 hour drive.
