This one was taken at Cannon Beach, Oregon on the first day of spring, 2018. We drove over 8 hours to get there just in time for the sunset. We unloaded the car and headed straight for the beach. It turned out that the next three days were rainy and wet. Lucky timing!

One that I did in 2015, when I was two years into photography, originally as a passtime and at that point gradually aiming for a bit more – even though I didn’t quite know what that was yet 🙂

At this point I would consider it a bit too stereotypical, but back then I was quite pleased with the shot. I believe in not killing my babies, however immature they were 😉 So I am posting it here.

I wanted a silhouette of the tree but also wanted to leave enough detail to show that we’re enjoying a sun downer. Madikwe Game Reserve, SA.

The magic of silhouettes involving sunsets is that you get much more dramatic lighting…  which is my FAVORITE! And I have too many to choose from  🙂 Old and new Kansas Windfarm at sunset

Thank you, Rob!  What’s always interested me about this picture (it was taken a few months ago) is that few people talk about the juxtaposition.  Thanks for pointing it out and that’s what I love most about the image.  The colors are pretty neat, but I like the ‘new’ set against the ‘old’.  And as you say, I prefer the old.  I great up in Illinois in a farm town.  Those old ones are the only ones we had.  Thanks for the nice comments.

I like the unusual perspective. Is that optical, or did you do some compositing? I also love the color and the juxtaposition of old and new.

That photo is out of the camera, all optical.  100mm lens across a windfarm in Kansas.  No editing other than basic Lightroom edits.  Yes, I loved seeing the old windmill and intentionally worked to frame it as best as I could given the time constraints of the quickly setting sun.  🙂

Just a family of German tourists exploring the sand banks uncovered by the low tide – but who knows what wonderful treasures could be hidden in this boundary region suspended halfway between the sea and the land… While looking at this scene I felt the thrill of a dawning adventure, the beginning of a journey of discovery which belongs to all human beings. And I thought that this story would be worth telling…

This is my first time doing a challenge, so bear with me if I’m doing it incorrectly. This is how I like to sit in my living room in the evenings. There’s a large sodium arc streetlight just outside my window, and I enjoy the orange light that comes through the blinds. Just above the candle is a largeish TV screen (off at the moment) so I can have that ‘at the movies’ feel when I want.  Many silhouettes in the room, all part of the relaxed ambience.  Pardon the focus, this is a phone photo on my Samsung Galaxy S8.silhouette livingroom

I was just finishing up a senior session and had put most of my equipment away when the girl pointed to the sky. We ran up the hill (her in high heels) to quickly grab this photo.Olivia's Sunset

I keep thinking that I don’t do silhouettes but when I looked through photos I have posted online, I discovered that I actually have quite a few–they’re just not all dramatic sunset shots! Here’s one I like where the silhouettes provide a frame for the subject.  I have a couple of others, but I can’t figure out how to upload more than one photo in the same post.

I love the peace of this, Issam. I grew up on a lake. I would get home from school and jump in the canoe or fish from the dock. My happy place! I love how you kept the shadow of the silhouetted photo in the image too. Nice shot.

I was at a game reserve, where other lodges also did night trips. One of the other game lodges’ night drive cars went to the opposite side from where we were, and put their spotlight on the lion for us.

On my (Lagos Business School – OMP 26 Class) trip to Strathmore Business School, Nairobi, Kenya, we went on a visit to Hippo Safari Resort Naivasha, Kenya. This shot was taken while on a boat ride to see some Hippopotamus. One Hut stand.....

Enoma, the image is full of interesting contrasts: the dark silhouettes against the light surroundings, the low hut/shelter(?) and the tall verticals, the feeling of desolation and the anticipation of who’s going to be in the shelter. Many stories can be told here. Hope to see more from you.

I like this too. There is a starkness to the landscape that feels almost like death, and then there is the hut, which indicates life. Very nice.

Since one of the things these challenges motivate me to do is go over old images (most with minimal camera and photography knowledge, no pp and shot only in JPG), remembering what I have, seeing them with new eyes and doing some editing, here is a 9 year old typical tourist image from Barcelona.
