      Mistaking the Tripods for the Trees

      Pretty simple image I took while out in the woods of Chernobyl II (Duga radar site), a triplet of temporarily abandoned tripods amongst the trees. Seemed fitting for the theme.

      The story behind these tripods is more mundane than you probably expect; I was on a photography outing into the Chernobyl exclusion zone with a group of 7 photographers. As it was mostly overcast and we were mostly shooting indoors, all of us heavily relied on our trusty tripods indoors. However, once outdoors, most of us would be somewhat on the lazy side and just plant them somewhere while shooting hand-held. In this instance we were in an overgrown children’s play yard. I felt the sight of tripods among the trees to be an odd sight and a nice meta-image of our trip that I just had to shoot it. Right before the shot, one of my colleague photographers wanted to retrieve her tripod from the bunch, but I luckily convinced her to let it rest for a little while more.
