I’ve mowed the yard 3 times now this year, so the dealing with snow is fading 🙂

Hooah, thank you. My wife wanted to snowblow, usually once each season and since the snow wasn’t too deep, this was the day for her, LOL.

Allows Edits? YesStunning series of seasonal photos. Is that a reed that the bird is feeding on Patrick? @patrickw-2 just curious. I have some growing in a small pond in the garden and curious to know more about the reed. Would be great to know if the birds love them 🙂

Thank you so much Dahlia
Hunting for Hidden Insects (Primary Reason)
Larvae and Grubs Over winter and into early spring, the dense, tightly packed seed heads of bulrushes act as a protective blanket for hibernating insects.
The Target , They are usually hunting for the larvae of specialized insects like the Shy Cosmet moth. These tiny caterpillars spin silk threads inside the stalk, feeding on the inner seeds and remaining protected from the cold.
Visual Cue: When these larvae are active, they cause parts of the bulrush to naturally burst open.Blue tits are highly curious, intelligent, and acrobatic foragers; they easily spot these loosened tufts and use their sharp beaks to shred the plant further to extract a protein-rich meal.
Gathering Nesting Insulation , Soft Lining: During the spring nesting season, female blue tits seek out exceptionally soft materials to line the deep cup of their nests , Warmth for Eggs The fine, cottony fluff of a shredded bulrush provides superb thermal insulation. They will collect mouthfuls of this downy fiber alongside moss, animal fur, and feathers to keep their eggs and hatchlings warm.
I have a pair right now in the bird box in the yard doing just this very job , i have an old chair waiting for the skip and they have plucked the stuffing from it and also used it in the nest 🙂

There might be a story behind this, like Memorial Day or the Fourth of July. Very eye-catching.
