Love the eye highlight and lovely to see because we have very very few these days , a few years ago i seen they went on the danger list for uk /ireland wildlife , when i was at school i seen many at the correct time in the year but not seen one for about 10 years in the wild.

Allows Edits? YesGreat Blue Herons are not tame but they reside in all sorts of environments, including urban lakes and ponds and rivers. They are rather regal and have a habit of “posing” for long periods of time, making them wonderful models.

A close encounter that did not allow a lot of time for adjustments. The left side is blown out but…..it is a bison on the move. I really didn’t feel I could ask him to stop for a second.

Patrick, this reminds me of portraits that were taken of native Americans. I believe the era would have been later than the daguerreotype but not by much. The shot has a very antique quality. Well done!

The male chaffinch , i set that stick up in my yard on a wet day , bird seed on a table below … These birds mostly feed from the ground it will take them from the table but not before feeling safe.

@patrickw-2, this is fortunately after Rut or I would not have been this close. Antlers usually drop in January. These were shot on the 29th of this month. Thank you.

Allows Edits? YesNice Elk shots, I have a small herd taunting me, they sleep in the pasture below the house at night and leave sign everywhere, but I’ve never caught them coming or going, all I get is to wash the scat off the dogs that love rolling in the fresh deposits.

Such amazing animals to live with! I’m about an hour south of Rocky Mountain National Park, so I try to get up there as much as I can to spend time with them. I had the pleasure of hanging out with a small bachelor herd up in the high country a few times this summer, twce before they shed velvet and once more a few weeks later after they’d all shed. This was a favorite of one of the 2 elders from my final visit of the season.

Hummingbirds have long been one of my favorite animals to spend time with and photograph. This was from one of my last sessions with the local neighborhood clan with a female broad tail enjoying my neighbors flower bed

Female cicada Gen X – she is about to use her ovipositor [thin black rod] to piece the bark and lay eggs. White dots on the trunk are other holes she’s made. So destructive.
