It’s hard to make a shark tank comment on these, but I think they’re terrific, especially the first and last. Maybe the lion oughtn’t to be so far off center. Maybe the owl could have the face and especially the eyes dodged a wee bit.
Are you doing this with Lightroom’s texture tool? Nice work!

Great idea to put this in BW. Has to be seen large, the sky is really interesting. I agree with Dahlia about straightening a little, the fence posts lean to the left.
I like how you pushed the foreground texture to match the sky, maybe showing more of that would be good. But you could have played the same game with the trees left and right, and…[Read more]
It’s a beautiful peony (peonie?), but I disagree with everyone. I don’t like the shot.
The green leaves hanging down from the top are the only things in true focus. They draw my eye away from the flowers. I assume it was windy and that’s why you shot 1/1600, but your autofocus appears to have screwed you by glomming onto those leaves (this looks…[Read more]
This is a very nice shot.
There’s a green roof dead center on the bottom border that I would clip by bringing the crop in from the bottom ever so slightly. That will also put the right hand hill crest on the 1/3 line. I tried bringing the crop in from the right to put the notch on the horizon at 1/3, but what you’ve got looks way better.
If the…[Read more]
I agree with Beth’s comments: this is a mass of middle greys with some blacks driven so far down there are no features left (tree trunk). I don’t know what the original looked like, but I wonder if you couldn’t have made some other choices when you converted to bw. Lighten the blues and darken the greens (or vice versa) to make the sky contrast…[Read more]
Hi Beaky. This is a gorgeous shot, I agree.
If you want to lighten parts of the rock without brightening the rest of the image, here is a trick. You can apply localized dodging with a luminosity mask that selects the brighter portions of the rock. There are a couple of guys on the web peddling sets of luminosity masks for this purpose. I am…[Read more]
The California Bluegrass Association, to pass the idle hours. has launched a website with a portfolio of images of events, mostly concerts, from the last 3 years. While we still had such a thing as concerts. I contributed some images from the Sonoma Folk and Bluegrass Festival that took place in March of 2019.
The concert took place at Analy High…[Read more]
How close to this bird were you? The eye is much closer to true focus than the top of the head, though I’d think with a 55 you’d have plenty of depth of field. At least at proximities I’d feel comfortable at. That’s a wicked looking bird!
