I remember @aarongeis had a similar style of cropping portraits that he made work really well.

Love the colors, @aarongeis. Did you make the blur adjustment in Photoshop or lightroom? That’s cool!Check It Out

Hi Aaron @aarongeis I actually do that on occasion. Then I will reduce the opacity to somewhere around 50% to 60%. It can “enrich” colors so much. Check It Out

A few valid points by @aarongeis, @capetown99. Having said that – i’s still avery appealing scene. Perhaps more balance would have been achieved by swerving the camera just a tad to the right so the huge pipe ended on the top/left 3rds lines’ crossing.
Keep on snapping!Check It Out

@aarongeis, yes some good ones amongst them. I do like the bridge shot and the shots of the kids on the beach. I would crop the lower 1/3rd of the sunset photo though. The flowers are too busy for my liking. The DOF is good. The portrait of the woman………………..back ground too busy. I would use a f1.8 (don’t know what you used, but a 35mm…[Read more]

Many thanks, @aarongeis. The whole thing of “being afraid to critique my photos” was because I only wanted to see the work of those who give critique on not just my work, but on anybody’s work. My point was simply that a picture speaks a thousand words.
I see what you mean by the balance and must agree.
Thanks for your link to your flickr…[Read more]

Hi @aarongeis,
Thank you so much, your explanation was excellent..I just finished my NYIP Unit 3 Exam (WOW what a bugger that was), so now I am going to take a day or two off and just take photos and play.
you know @gordonjames, I was wondering myself if perhaps that effect was done in photoshop.. btw thanks for the link to the photo..it…[Read more]

Another cracking image, @aarongeis! Don’t you just hate compromises? I like the separation of body and building better, but the loss of that curved leg by shooting lower down weakens the second image.
All I can say it that I’d be pretty happy with either of them, and hope one day to get a chance to shoot the spider (it was fenced off by…[Read more]

A Question about Blurred Background.Hi @aarongeis
I have a question for you please. I saw a wonderful photo, unfortunately I don’t remember where, but it was of a young lady standing beside a very long brick wall (it looked like it was shot kind of at a angle), that was in focus in the front, but the behind the young lady was very very blurred…[Read more]

Hi @aarongeis, oh I see what you mean now, with the 45 degree front light. The apple is lite so that only a small portion of the apple is in shadow, with a darker shadow at a 45 degree angle. And when you use a fill flash it lightens the shadow.
Thanks so much for the great examples. I took a photo to see if I did it correctly, that I will…[Read more]
