Nice shot Robert.  I miss your corner of the world.  Hope to get back over there soon.

Always been fascinated by lightning and we do get to see a lot of it up here where we live in the tropics.  This photo was taken from the relative safety of my back verandah and kinda looked to me like dancing/fighting snakes.  Unsure if I’ve posted this on here before but I though it fit the brief somewhat. Click to enlarge.

Once in approx 1000 year event currently unfolding with (from bottom) Jupiter, Venus, Mars and Saturn aligning through until May.  Snap taken just before sunrise in my backyard in Darwin Australia.  iPhone 11.  SOOC.

One thing to try:  If you’re using Lightroom, click on the mask tool and then “Select Subject”.  that should select the group of flowers.  If it also selects the bright white area behind, you can subtract from the selection using a brush.  Once you’ve deselected the bright white area, click on “Invert” and then your background (including your bright white area) should now be selected rather than the flowers .  From there you should just be able to reduce the highlights/whites down to something you like.  Hope this helps.

Appreciate the comments @JasenkaG and @Patrick.  Just to give a bit of context, these shots like so many of mine at the moment, are taken on our training walks (we’re heading to Nepal trekking in a few weeks – camera in hand) so the tripod stays home.  I do like the monopod suggestion though.  I’ve seen others out and about with one so it might be an addition to the kit soon I think.  Regarding framing of shot one, how’s this?

You’re right about it needing to be seen large.  Great shot.  Reminded me of something I took a few months ago which is about as far removed from snow as you can get.  A bushfire burning just the other side of a fenceline from my home.

Great photos.  Amazed at your spider taming skills.  Getting them to sit still while you take their photo must have taken some practice.  I especially like the second one – it could double as a minion from the Despicable Me movies.  Not sure what joke you told him but he looks to be laughing pretty hard!

I find silence annoys these people more than biting back.  And annoying them is where the real fun is right?

Hi Beth,  There is a fairly simple way to see what your website looks like on a variety of devices and you can do it yourself without owning those devices.  If you have the Google Chrome or FireFox browser, just do the following (happy to help more if you need):

Go to your web page (you can actually do this for any webpage on the internet – rest assured what follows has no actual effect on any of your web pages! Its just so you can see what they look like).

Right click your mouse and choose “Inspect”.  Something that looks like a coding page will appear where you can see your webpage on top and the html coding etc on the bottom, don’t be daunted by this – the coding part is just so web developers can troubleshoot their web coding.

Over on the left side of that Inspect area’s menu bar (on the right for Firefox) (roughly in the middle of the screen), you should see a small arrow and next to that, an icon that looks like a tablet and an iPhone on top of one another.  Click the iPhone icon and the top screen will change (you should still be able to see your webpage but it will appear in a fully enclosed box).

Now, right up at the top of the page, you will have a dropdown box that says:  Dimensions: (and it will probably be preset to “Responsive”).

If you click into that dropdown (click on “Responsive”), you can change to a variety of different devices to see what that web page will look like on those devices.  Each different device will show you what your page should look like on that device’s screen.  To see different pages, you’ll need to do the above for each of them (ie get out of Inspect and go back in once you’ve gone to the next page you want to view).

To exit the inspect area, just click the “x” over on the right hand side of the Inspect area and you will be left with your webpage again.  Then you can go to other web pages and see what they look like.

If you have any trouble, let me know and I can help a bit more if you like.  Once you’ve done it once or twice though you should get the hang of it.

      Regards,

      Andrew.

      Freedom.

      As free as a bird

Shame I didn’t have my camera with me but I couldn’t resist an iPhone(6) shot of one of the bird world’s most notorious french-fry thieves (“chips” for us Australians) flying free near one of the world’s most notorious prisons.

Hi Rob, just saw your question.  Not entirely sure what you mean by smooth – probably me just displaying my newbie levels of knowledge here but I sharpened the image a little and reduced a bit of ISO noise in LR if that’s what you mean.  I am keen to hear what you mean by the image appearing smooth if that’s not it though.

Thanks Wendy.  I took this last night out the back of my house.  Added the grain for a bit of “Vincent Price – 50’s” feel.

Thanks Erik.  You’re right, it looks much cleaner.  I’ll have a go at that edit myself I think.  Thanks for taking the time on your edit.
