Thanks! I’ll try the same in darktable to get used to the technique (beginner speaking…).

Thanks for the reply Federico. This is the kit lens on the Nikon D750. Specifically…
Nikon D750. Nikon AF-S Nikkor 24-120mm f/4G ED VR .Interestingly, I took over 100 pictures of various dogs and only a few have this problem (and it is always the dogs’ eyes, and often the tongue as well).

In the picture below the dog’s eyes are grape-colored. Can anybody tell me what causes this and how to correct it? I am using darktable.
Nikon D750, F/4, 1/800, 70mm, ISO 12,800.
I know the picture has lots of other flaws, it is the eye color issue that I am working on for now.

Here is a re-crop for more background and space on the right. Also, the histogram maximized.

That is a big improvement. The eyes in particular are much more alive. Thanks!

Here is the third attempt: 1/1000, f5.6, ISO 224. Very little post-processing other than a crop.

Wow! What an improvement. I wasn’t sure how much to zoom in but your example answers that question. The grass just needs to be, essentially, a frame. This weekend I hope to do the third go-around with wider aperture to get a less grainy original. And then, additional to the edits suggested, practice cloning as I have not used that before and have…[Read more]

Here is a second attempt. I placed Malaya more centrally. Exif settings were: f/11, 1/1000 sec., ISO-5000 and focal length 120mm. My (amateur) impressions are that the higher shutter speed helped capture a crisp image. The dog’s face is in better focus. To get an image around 300KB (I got 389KB) I exported it from darktable as a JPG with quality…[Read more]

Thanks! I have some 1/1000 shots taken this week. Just figuring out how to make the files smaller to upload here.

Tobie: “Your image size is 24Mb in size and 4805px wide. That makes it slow to load in the browser and you may lose viewer participation because of that. 1000px width is more than sufficient for LS purposes. Try to have the image size less than 300Kb. ”
I am using darktable. How do I get the physical image down without cropping or losing…[Read more]
