I like the modifications made so far. My take on what could be improved:
– reduce the vignette to let more detail show in the hands/arms/partial bodies
– increase the sharpness a little bitGreat street shot!Check It Out

As for your 2nd photo, I agree with @falx, the shadows are fantastic. I think you could crop out the left side to take out the uninteresting portion (spectators) of the photo and just leave the lively scene in play.
Here is a conversion and crop I did just as an example:

Music festivals make for great photo opportunities.
For the first image, @falx pretty much hit it on the nose with his critique.
You should be getting closer to isolate the subject. You have another 60mm left in your zoom and I assume you could have gotten closer.
The subject himself is OK, but not all that interesting.

@falx I personally find it difficult to critique some images due to the fact that the images in the Shark Tank are so darn small. The image you posted today for instance is an incredibly difficult one to critique, is the image sharp? Is it in focus in the areas that it should be? Maybe, maybe not… I can’t tell though because I can’t get close…[Read more]

@bridgetcam – I think you have something great here, I think it’s a great capture. The only thing in my opinion that is lacking is a bit of post processing. The included edit, may be a bit overboard but you get the idea. Sharpen the image a bit and bump up the colours or go…[Read more]

I am surprised that with the 100mm focal length and f2.8, that there isn’t a better bokeh.
I would suggest doing a little bit of cropping to get your image to be more of a focal point, the flower on the right side could go as well as the one on the left bottom corner. You could then take little off the bottom to get into an 4×5 aspect ratio.…[Read more]

Entertaining thread folks, thanks for all the comments and discussions, I am a music lover as much as the next guy… @diogo405 , I do agree, for me 3 of the 5 are looking fairly natural and then 2 are a bit more stiff. The timing of that shot was interesting as some of the guys were breaking out of their spots and the others were stagnant, so I…[Read more]

Punk hardcore band photo shoot.
Casual shoot, the shots were intended to be gritty and rough, like the band themselves. No plastic looking vogue models here.

Well, I am going against the grain here. I think you’ve lost some of the drama in the new rendition.
The sky went from strikingly eery black to a soft grey.
If you are using photoshop, I would attempt to burn the sky to try to get those blacks back. Check It Out

I’ll comment further on the crop. I am not sure where you started your crop from in your new image, but on the left side I would definitely start at the line that splits the graffiti woman in half on the wall. You can afford to lose some of the top and bottom of the image, so getting the right proportions shouldn’t be an issue.
Also in this…[Read more]

If you coul get more detail (highlights) in the mountain area that might help a bit. The B&W conversion looks great on the road and the weeds and such but there is a loss of detail as you get to the mountains.
I think the biggest thing for me is that there are no clouds, such a perfect gradient sky actually makes it less interesting.
So, I…[Read more]

Shifting your focal point to a different location doesn’t change the contrast colour. Not sure I understand that comment.
As for a wider crop, while I don’t think it is needed. There is a simple answer to how it could be wider, just back away from the subject a little bit. When people are suggesting a wider crop, it doesn’t necessarily mean…[Read more]

@keithinmelbourne I like the suggestion regarding the “risk of falling”. I have another image of this climber where this is conveyed better.
@billiemae77 thanks for your comment regarding the crop. I agree, I should have shot this particular shot with more of the lower body in place and then adjusted my crops afterwards.
