I was afraid of that…
I think you are correct. I’m still not throwing it away, but a little more though would have gone a long way. Check It Out -

Do you like? I know it’s taken at a slightly odd angle.

I personally like the fact that it makes her look needy. It tells so much more then just a stereotypical shot. One thing though – selective color. I don’t like it ever, but in this shot it seems so unnecessary. Check It Out

It’s well exposed and clear, and I know you don’t have control over it, but the cars do nothing for the shot. Because they are closer to the viewer they rob far too much attention from the building.
An alternative might have been to try shooting later during the day with an ND on and taking a long exposure that blurs the cars passing, creating a…[Read more] -

Yes the G11 still has plenty of potential. Especially for a learner like me. I really like it because of the physical controls (ISO and exposure comp right on the top) and it handles well. It also sits on my belt really well; like you said when I shoot raw it has a lot of leniency and it produces nice quality…[Read more]

Aaron – other then the fact that I’m not particularly well versed in shooting portraits, I also lack the gear. The G11 is ok for nature and macro and landscapes, but it fails in non posed shots as it is not nearly snappy enough. Plus there’s almost no DoF.
It’ll be a long time before I make a run at a wedding.Check It Out -

If I drive for hours in any direction I’ll either hit America or a forest. It seems like in the States you get a greater variety of landscape in a shorter distance. Canada has the change, but it’s so spread out.Check It Out

Is the lack of film a local thing? Up here, I could roll into any number of stores in the city and pick up a few rolls. Maybe not the specific type you’d be looking for though…Check It Out

That’s a lot of riding every night. I don’t get that much in but I make sure that I have the camera with me at almost all times.
You may say that you’re learning still, but to most of us here, you’ve pretty much arrived haha.

It’s a very good point. I’ve learned that just because something looks cool, doesn’t mean it will pop as a photo. Often you need that extra SOMETHING to push it up a notch and transform ‘huh that’s neat’ to ‘I enjoy taking in this image’.
I’ve only been shooting digital for about 10 months, and I’ve already learned to sometimes turn it off and…[Read more] -

Tooo many puns.
Throwaway photos are the sign of a rank beginner like myself I think. I tick off my wife when I shoot about 20 shots, come home and sometimes junk all but 1.
One thing I have to say is that Aaron raises an interesting point about what people WANT to see.
As soon as I add a person to an image – bam, more people are interested.…[Read more] -

Less or more. In other words, I’m seeing the grass and tall plants in the background as a distraction, not completing the scene. I’d either zoom out a bit to bring them into frame and use them as reference or bring it in tighter on the mallards. Just me. Check It Out

I really really like the second one that you posted. The main one not so much. Personally I feel like the second dimension of the second one is given by the curl of the wave that really suggests movement. I also feel that the waves would be better if they had a point of reference to judge them by IE something for scale etc. Check It Out
