Hi Anne, Nice! I like the diagonal road. My only ST comment is that their hands are almost overlapping which is a little confusing… gotta find something. The G7 is a nice small camera and I almost bought one but wanted a viewfinder so got the G1Xmk3. I don’t know about you but I’m getting older and the thrill of carrying a full kit is le…[Read more]
I agree about combining BW and color except this was “organic” that way. The glare is in the photo, no flash used and I kinda like it and the other imperfections.
Anne, I couldn’t figure out what to do with the door frame. I absolutely love your crop and I will use it, thanks!!!
I have been browsing some old photos while isolating and found this one which is a bit strange at first glance which I find interesting. It’s a bricked up door in an abandoned building that someone pasted a BW poster inside of the door. I was lucky to have my model (wife) with me. I can’t decide between BW or color. It’s full size so there is no…[Read more]
Lots of good ideas, thanks!
Not being able to crop to any aspect size one would like complicates things. Frank, the statues are only up for 4 or 5 weeks but the building is a well known landmark that the 1500 or so tourists that buy calendars will remember when freezing back home up north.
I totally agree about the eye. The original has the…[Read more]
There is a charity that prints a calendar every year for a fund raiser here in Mazatlan. I give them several photos every year. The photos have to be 10×7, period, which can be challenging. This is one of the statues that lines our malecon (boardwalk) at carnaval every year. I’m not real happy about having to crop part of an eye for the 10×7 size…[Read more]
Duncan, thanks for your comment. There was a lot of foot traffic here and I only had time for a quick spray and pray but your right lower would be better.
Alan, I like your first option, thanks!
Rob, he was pretty far out of it so I don’t know if strings would help his playing.
Hi Greg, my first thought is that there is too much uninteresting and distracting stuff going on in the background which draws the eye away from the not very interesting to start with subjects. Maybe just the guy on the ground framed under the sign? Get closer, “If your pictures aren’t good enough your not close enough”, Robert Capa.
Rob and Frank, thank you both. I don’t usually like to do PS stuff like moving the pillar the way you both did but I have seen the light and will do it! I like the almost square but vertical crop on both too which will work well in a square book. I’m gonna wait until the fat lady sings critique wise before I do anything more with this but I t…[Read more]
Jasenka, yes the verticals need some work and thanks for pointing it out!
Frank, I like to show the environment in my photos. With some of your extreme cropping of my other photos you have turned street shots into portraits. I don’t particularly care for this one either.
Allen, I REALLY like what you did. The two subjects are really obvious! I struggled with this. The pillar on the right is kinda lonely I will give a vertical crop a try and who knows? I don’t care for that pillar all by itself way over on the right. BTW, the road is beach sand and I have water around my ankles but who is to know?
