Hi John, the background is still a distraciton especially the tree coming out of this head. I have found that more I shoot and make mistakes the better a chance of getting it right occasionally. Ansel Adams said he was happy with a crop of 12 year.

Peter, this feels relaxing and I like it. I find the bright counter at the top a bit of a distraction because everything else has a sameness about it.

I’m not an on purpose flower photographer but I was walking by and the hard light at dawn was interesting to me.

If you have one try using a large aperture to blur the BG a bit. I your intent was to make a street or candid shot I think it would be more interesting if we could see his face. If you want to document the interesting keyboard and bike leave the bench out or stand on the bench for an unusual angle and eliminate some of the cars.

After a second look the hoses and regulator in the BG are a confusing jumble. Goggles and tank are cool.

Duncan, I don’t get it. A pair of goggles on top of a gas tank. Nothing special about the light or processing.

Thank you all for you kind comments. The people that are the movers and shakers for the farmers market want me to shoot photos for a calendar that they are going to do. I asked, “how do you know I’m a good photographer… “because you have a big camera and it’s a canon”. In Mexico, size does matter but at 70 years I can’t carry my 70-200 f2…[Read more]

Covid restrictions make street photography difficult now but I have found a fairly “safe” place to shoot. I just can’t get interested in shooting flowers and bugs around the house. Mexico is third in the world for fatality rate so I’m really cautious.
There is a large park here that has a farmers market every Saturday with very little traffi…[Read more]

Hi Roy, I’m not a nature photographer but I think the background is too busy and is a distraction. “If your pictures aren’t good enough your not close enough”, not my words but… I really don’t think all of the background is necessary as it’s repetitive so I cropped in closer and desaturated the background so the orange stuff is not so pro…[Read more]

Rob, “Signs, signs, everywhere there’s signs”. I have to agree with the consensus in that the stuff in upper left is a bit of a distraction.

OK, I tried cropping a tad on the left to get rid of the doorway but the edge of the table was right up against the edge of the frame and like Federico said it is a leading line. So I ended up cropping out the door then extending the canvas and cloning the edge in to fill it and blurring that area. Not exactly a specialty…[Read more]

He has had the same piece of sidewalk for the 14 years I have been in Mazatlán. What you see is pretty much his entire inventory. He sells and repairs watches, batteries and straps.

Rob, I was trying to only have the face and beak in sharp focus. F2.8 was too difficult so f3.5. I purposely left the sky pretty much as from the camera so the bird was the total center attention.
Greg, no flash. I have several off camera flashes and all the stuff that goes with them but I just moved my chair until the…[Read more]

I’m not a nature photographer, like going and sitting in the jungle infested with misquotes, but on my patio with a cocktail…. I love the colors of the Cinnamon humming birds which I had not seen until moving to Mazatlán. I tried several shutter speeds and like this one with a bit of blur. 1/1250, f3.5, 200mm on a crop sensor, iso160
