Hi Rob, looks like a cool place! I think it needs an obvious focal point.

Jasenka, thank you for your comment! This may be the wrong place for advice on this kind of shot as most of the shooters here have no motion or people and the shooter has tons of time to get everything just right before pressing the shutter. Time for google.

Hi Steve and thanks for your comments! You got me to thinking, I think the place for me to get some ideas is to look at on line photos of cyclists and cycle races. This photo is “from the camera” and I would crop it on the right to make more room for his face. I used a variable ND filter because of the harsh tropical sun here and the long shu…[Read more]

My new home in La Paz, MX is a big time bicycling town and I am experimenting with showing motion. I shot more than 2,000 frames and only got one that is half way decent. I would like suggestions to help get more keepers and how to make it more interesting. 1/15, f5.6, iso100

Federico, I am still discovering the cool stuff with a mirrorless camera. I have an IR filter that I have to try which should be more convenient to use instead of guessing settings and seeing what you get. I bought an adaptor to use my old Canon lenses that has a variable ND filter built in that I have been using quite a bit so I can shoot w…[Read more]

Jasenka, I agree it looks a too active but I wanted to show the environment. Maybe the viewer needs to sit back an look, ha, ha, ha! The whole shot is not more than 3 meters from front to back and I shot from across a narrow street. Please tell me how you would use a different aperture and I will try it?

This place unique and it fascinates me. I walk by it several times a week but there is usually a car parked in front or no people. I have been using a lens baby velvet lens which is totally manual and makes me feel like a “real” photographer with manual focus. I just discovered a menu item on my Canon R7 called Focus Peaking which is pre…[Read more]

Hi Duncan, this was in Spain. Not sure if they are into tequila or if I would have been willing to pay their prices! I know that a couple shots of Jack Daniels was about the price of a bottle here.

Frank, thanks for your comments. I like to show a bit more of the BG than how you softened it but do like the “add canvas”. I have learned that size matters for street photography in Mexico. When I walk around with a backpack, DSLR and big lens many people beg to be photographed which means lots of candid portrait opportunities. I shoot les…[Read more]

Robert, where is the quote from? I love drinking the coconut milk from the shell with a straw and a little rum is nice too.
Frog, I removed several people including her mother. As usual my sloppy processing shows but I’m usually more concerned about the story than technical perfection and I know it shows.
Jasenka, I will look and see if th…[Read more]
