Erik Fransman replied to the topic What does it mean? in the forum General Photo Chit Chat 1y, 4mo ago
I do not think it has anything to do with anything technical. Getting it right in the camera means that you made a shot that is the BASIS for a great image. That often can be blurred, blown out, underexposed, and so on, as long as it is right for the image that you create after the post-production is done. Pushing the shutter is just a part of the…[Read more]

These are the same people who say that analog records sound better than digital.
Or who do not add spices when cooking because the raw foods should taste as it is.
Or the people who claim that they can brake better than ABS.
Fine by me but at the same time, they miss out on a lot of possebilities (and in the case of ABS, safety)I agree that “Fix…[Read more]

Hi Steve, nice image. He will be pleased.
I would suggest playing a bit more with it and enhancing the Autumn feeling.
And make the fisherman the hero.

Strange as it is, I like it. I think it might work just a little better with some tweaks, dodge and burn. Something like this:

Hi Aurimas. for me, it’s too dark, especially because the contrast between the white sea and the rest of the image is too strong. Because of that, I don’t know where to look.
So I would bring some light to the buildings, make sure your black and white levels are Ok and crop. The crop makes it easier to actually see what’s in the image.
Something…[Read more] -

Fix the levels and possibly a different crop.

Erik Fransman replied to the topic Another Portrait! in the forum The Shark Tank Feedback Forum 1y, 4mo ago
Philip,
Like the other portrait, it has a “milky” feel because your blacks are not black and the whites are not white. The shirt gets a little smudgy.
I also think it works better in a 1×1 closer crop. the 1×1 closer crop is a bit more direct, in your face, and this portrait can have that. Something like this:

Nothing to change. Well spotted and clicked!

Ninan, It looks like the left (Camera left) legs of the spider are pin-sharp, but the head is a tad soft.
Would work better if the head was pin-sharp.You named the image “CAMOUFLAGED”. I don,t quite see that. It´s more “In your face”.
Also in the other images, where you see green the spider on a greenish leaf, it´s not very CAMOUFLAGED. The s…[Read more] -

Hi Philip, I agree with Bucweet that you did a good job on removing the BG but…
The original BG does add to the story, can tell you a little about this woman.
Without the BG, it is more stylish but also less telling.
Your post is a bit flat. If you look at the histogram there are no whites and no blacks.
I would try to avoid that. In post I…[Read more] -

Erik Fransman replied to the topic Messing with Colours in the forum General Photo Chit Chat 1y, 4mo ago
Hi Andrew, well, messing with colors it is. Always fun. For me, it doesn’t quite work because the image is overall underexposed and especially, the boat is too much in the dark.
You look at the sun behind the mountains and the boat, which should be an essential part of your image is lost. If you play with colors, play some more, a bit more…[Read more] -

Cats are always great.
I would use the light to put the emphasis on Kylie, not the surroundings. Brighten the eyes a tad (dodge) and burn the white pillow.Something like this:

Erik Fransman replied to the topic Black and White Image – Help with Banding in the sky? in the forum General Photo Chit Chat 1y, 4mo ago
The banding is gone. I downloaded your zip and it is not in the org raw file.
What I do see, the image is a bit soft. With f/11 that should not be the case.
Probably some camera shake, at 1/59s with a 62 (=95mm) lens.
Try a bit faster shutter speed, Higher ISO (200) and a smaller number aperture. f/5.6 - Load More
