I agree “it’s pretty” is not a critique. Many of the people posting are new. They don’t know what’s bad or good about their photos. When I see an image that has little to redeem it, I think about the experience level and what the photographer was trying to communicate. Then I can critique even a snapshot because I know it has meaning to the person…[Read more]

  • I stopped critiquing after the first day. Critiques by definition are not all negative. People learn by pointing out what is working in their images as well as what is not. They also learn the lingo of photography and how it applies to their work. Sorry I can’t do all negative.

I always learn when I critique so thank you for the opportunity to look at your work. color, sharpness, and light. Y our whites look well balanced and are not blown out. Horses always seem to be giving photographers their butts! I would crop the other horse out and cut a bit of the foreground. You might like that better. Keep shooting!

  • I always learn when I critique so thank you for the opportunity to look at your work. I like it as a graphic/texture shot. Nice color and texture in the rust. Highlights in metal are not blown out. There seems to be a shadow in the top right that could use a bit more detail. Overall interesting to look at. Keep shooting!

I always learn when I critique so thank you for the opportunity to look at your work. When I first looked at this my impression of your image is that he looks light a friendly young man. It is not portraiture but an interesting candid shot. I think the red light lends a bit of youth and energy to the image. Your whites are good, the shirt and tie…[Read more]

  • I always learn when I critique so thank you for the opportunity to look at your work. You are being too hard on yourself. Sometimes candid portraits are right on target for your subject. The light in this is side light which is great for showing texture in wrinkled skin. Black and white is a great medium for portraits as well. If he posed you…[Read more]

I always learn when I critique so thank you for the opportunity to look at your work. Having lived in West Texas I can appreciate a pump jack. Good use of the ‘Rule of Thirds. It does lend itself well to B&W. Try it again when the sky is a bit more dramatic. Keep shooting!

  • I always learn when I critique so thank you for the opportunity to look at your work. I like the blocks of color. That is my favorite part of this image. The horizon line is accurate. The composition is good and I agree maybe a bit less sky. I think it could use a tad more contrast it seems a bit hazy around the building and behind it. It would…[Read more]

  • I always learn when I critique so thank you for the opportunity to look at your work. Lots of nice leading lines. I love the graphic shapes of the buildings which complement the lines. Color is nice. Contrast good, as is sharpness. I am not sure about the sky. I wish it had a few clouds but the I can see why you wanted to include it. Keep working.

  • EDITED BY MOD – No positive comments in the shark tank!!

Tiny white spot above the child’s hat might be problematic if enlarged.

I believe the contrast is a bit to high at lower left

  • I always learn when I critique so thank you for the opportunity to look at your work. I enjoy the dreamy low contrast. I like the “7” on the shirt. I believe if you had lowered yourself and (the camera) you might improve the image a bit more. Keep working.

I always learn when I critique so thank you for the opportunity to look at your work. I agree the riders face might be a better focal point than the bull and that would be enhanced by sharper focus. Great color and nice composition. Keep at it!

  • Lovely motion and light in the water in both images. I do appreciate the detail in the highlights in the second but I think you may have lost s bit of contrast in that one. The shadows have more detail in the second but that may be where your contrast went. I am not very well versed in HD but your HD seems a bit sharper than the non-HD. Keep up…[Read more]
