@jpninanjohn when people smile there is a tendancy for the eyes to scrunch up, try getting them not to smile especially if you are going to convert to black and white đŸ™‚ also consider using fill flash or a reflector if you have limited time or to bounce more light onto the face, failing that a decent lighting kit..

Not sure what the new thing is that you’re trying here , @jpninanjohn. I feel there are several problems with the colour image that the black and white conversion does nothing to address.
The closure of the eyes, far from suggesting Tranquility, just suggests that the subject blinked as you pressed the shutter. Eyes are crucial in any portrait…[Read more] -

@jpninanjohn My question is what do you want to show us with this picture because I cannot quite figure it out.
What do you think yourself about the picture?

Gordon James replied to the topic Stairway in the forum The Shark Tank Feedback Forum 9y, 8mo ago
@jpninanjohn I think you have fallen between the proverbial two stools here. If the staircase is your subject you have cropped too much off, giving the stairs ‘nowhere to go’. You needed a different angle and a wider viewpoint.
If the elephant carving was your target you needed to get in closer (either physically or optically) to concentrate on…[Read more] -

@jpninanjohn I agree with you but that was the opportunistic shot that was on the run..Post prod can bring the yellow background down..bit of selective brush to reduce a combo of either saturation, lightness or sharpness.Check It Out

@jpninanjohn, it looks as if the highlights are a bit blown out in the top third, and I feel it would be better if you had included the whole of the bottom right ‘pole’ …..Check It Out

Suzanne replied to the topic A Mother… in the forum The Shark Tank Feedback Forum 9y, 10mo ago
@jpninanjohn I would say the highlights are a little blown on the bird’s head. The blacks on the tail feathers are also too dark, detail is lost there too, though the rest of the plumage is nice and sharp. I would adjust the levels slightly. It is a shame the similar colour and tone of the background and nest are in effect camouflaging your…[Read more]

@jpninanjohn, the flower is not sharp enough, and a little overexposed…..also the background is too busy, a different angle would do the lily more justice, and/or moving the large leaf behind it.Check It Out

@jpninanjohn Thanks for commenting.
This photo was taken around noon. The colour is a product of layer stacking as I was trying to add intensity.
@flac Thank you for your comments.

@jpninanjohn, are you trying to show scale, because if the bird is the subject, you don’t need the light… it’s a bit overwhelming, you could try cropping to isolate the bird.Check It Out

@jpninanjohn – Very difficult to critique shots like this. A close up flower, it’s sharp and DOF is good, nice contrasting colours, but I am guessing you achieved what you set out to do.
Maybe shoot it in a more challenging way? put the flower in the context of its surrounds.Check It Out

@jpninanjohn I think what @nikon-nut is trying to convey is that the silhouetted subject is difficult to identify as there are no defining characteristics about it.
