ACR window is to use the Adjustment Brush.I will have to check that app out!
I will have to check that app out! Thanks for the tip.
Very nice, Tom. You’re on a roll this week!
I think it’s very original and creative. Well done, Tom!
I like this shot very much, Lenny. Your last version is the winner in my mind.
This is how I envisioned the crop pulling the rock formation forward and increasing its dominance in the scene.
After playing around with the crop tool, this is what I ended up with.
Using the Adjustment Brush, I did the following-
1. Darkened the mountains and sky in the background. I didn’t increase the color saturation because I didn’t want to draw the eyes past the rocks. I also warmed up the color balance of the background so that it better matched the foreground, which was warm in hue.
2. I wanted my composition to end within the red box.
3. I darkened all of the foliage around the rocks and the path. This, in effect, created a path along the lightest area at the center of the picture. Sort of a leading line and the foliage now become a left and right frame to my desired stopping point.
I think this shot is satisfactory but lacks a ‘wow’ factor. I can see what you were trying to do with the taller rock formation. However, visually, it’s lost in the surrounding landscape. You indicated that you didn’t want others to edit your photos- otherwise I would have shown you what I’m about to say. I think a vertical crop that moves the rock formation forward within the composition would improve this.
I like it. Your tone placement in the b&w conversion is spot-on. It is evident that the subject matter is moving water. However, the ice does add a ‘mystery’ effect that requires further observation.
Excellent!
Love it, Joanne.
This photograph received a lot of love on the Weekly Photography Challenge #503 Strong Shadows forum, and I can see why.
It’s so delicate in the lighting and composition that it is hard to take your eyes off of it.
Congratulations, Diane, on your superb nature photo!
September 10, 2020 at 12:30 pm in reply to: Need some Lightroom Help with my Photo – Need some advice #457326I would crop it slightly to get rid of the distracting shapes that are near the edge of the frame: rooftop and boats.
I also lightened the mid-tones using the Curves tool. My concern would be that the mid-tones would go dark when printed.
I like the person in the shot. It gives the building a sense of size, perspective, and scale.
Again, I don’t see a DOF issue. Using an external flash for this shot would really change the look of it. It seems strange that the leaf is quite sharp down the middle, but extremely out of focus on either end. Did you blur those areas further in post?
I’m not sure why you think there is a DOF problem? At f/2.8, I would say the DOF is perfectly placed.
