This is a good first attempt and I was glad to see that it was not tone-mapped to death. I think a higher vantage-point would have helped this shot quite a bit but I understand that this was not necessarily viable. The leading lines pointing to the clock tower then brings my attention to a mass of lights which looks a little messy. Perhaps a…[Read more]

I don’t think that there was a need to go three seconds for the scene to make the water smooth like you wanted. You could have slid back to two seconds and preserved the highlights, which have been clipped in this image. I think you’ll find that the colors will pop out more just from exposing a little less as well. The scene also looks tilted. It…[Read more]

This looks like the color might be clipping a bit in the brightest areas of the flower, I disagree with msakijames though. I do not find the greenery to be distracting.Check It Out

It is almost never a good idea to center your subject in the frame and when you do so, it should be for a very good reason, like symmetry.
The seagull does look just a tiny bit over exposed like jaxwired has said. Pulling back the highlights either with the curves or in lightroom would be a good way to compensate for this.Check It Out

This might be my favorite image of this year. It’s been a really fun and interesting year but my love of birds (and more than that – owls) makes me really enjoy this one in particular.Check It Out Reply to Topic

The best place that I’ve found for constructive feedback of the negative sort is the photography forums over at 4chan.org ( http://www.4chan.org/p/ ). The vast majority of it’s users are anonymous and posting […]

Only thing that I think should be added here is that the horizon in this image is crooked. You should always strive to keep the horizon straight since it’s very distracting when it is not.

This looks shopped. The difference between the colors in the foreground and beyond the horizon is too different. It honestly looks like you took a photo of an empty road somewhere in Nevada and dumped some mountains in the middle.
The mountains themselves don’t look bad but the image as a whole looks patched together even though I know they aren’t.

This year I learned about a new technique for shooting fireworks that I really wanted to try out. This new method involves manually turning the focus ring on your lens during exposure to create more pronounced streaks of light as well as bokeh orbs.
I didn’t get a lot of chances to do this, having to rush to set up, being at a short fireworks…[Read more]

A little while ago I took a half-day trip up to the mountains for some photo-ops. I was feeling underwhelmed with my immediate surrounding photo sites and needed a change. I was not disappointed.
