Thanks, Rob! I appreciate this feedback about technical excellence. I fiddled a lot with the settings to get a decent shot, so was lucky the bird stayed fairly still. I’m never quite sure what qualifies as a macro compared to a closeup.

Keep being you & thanks for reminding me that all we can only ever be is ourselves (or something to that effect). Great words to live by!

Thanks, Lightandshadow! You’re right, we don’t turn on the light (or the fan) now that they’re there. They use the fan blades as perches during their shift changes & since it’s tight quarters in the nest, they know enough to duck when the fan blades rotate over their heads slightly with strong winds. The frosted glass makes it impossible for…[Read more]

Thanks, Steve! It was funny when we saw Mama & Papa checking us out for a few days when they were deciding on where to nest. Then they were gone for a week or so. One morning I happened to look up at the fan & there was the nest. Mama must have insisted on it

Ha ha Robert, thanks! Hmm, I seem to remember you calling them flying rats. Fortunately, they’ve behaved very well so far & are interesting to shoot (photos not guns). I don’t think they want to be evicted.

I’m not a birder, but hey, they showed up! We’re on brood # 2 under the ceiling fan in our backyard covered patio. First time, a real surprise. Their nest was the perfect cover during a recent lightning thunderstorm, I think they’re here to stay for awhile LOL. Anyone else with experience on mourning doves nesting?

Thanks, Dahlia! I love it when nature breaks the stereotype pointing us in a new direction. It’s an encouragement to break the status quo & try something new. We are built for that, just like a butterfly! 😀

I was totally shocked to discover this butterfly with a snout! Has anyone else seen one? It’s an American Snout butterfly.

Thanks, Rob! I have a lot of bee photos, it’s hard to choose just one! Do you mean honey bees? Here’s one I like of a bee hanging upside during her torpor rest. I have a number of shots plus bee info & things to think about in a PDF called Honey Bee Meditations: In Search of Gold if you’re interested.
